There’s a very good reason that after 21 years in Thailand, the only expats I know are former colleagues in the advertising industry here. All my close friends are Thai. 😉

I wouldn’t want to live in Hua Hin. Used to be nice but has been overrun with Russians, Bogans, and a lot of tatted up, unsavory types. Been in Thailand 21 years. Hua Hin, Phuket, Pattaya, Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Krabi, etc. are nothing like they used to be. Lots of druggies, scammers, & gangsters (Chinese, S. Korean & Russian). You’re better off in Bangkok as your base. 😉

Pim Hoogeveen, are you sure? I’ve heard that only applies if the spouse is Thai. 🤔

You keep coming here asking these same questions and many people have given you answers but you don’t seem to accept them.

I’ve lived in Bangkok for 21 years. Retired 5 years ago. Chiang Mai is considerably less expensive than Bangkok, so $2,800 (86,000 THB) is definitely doable as an income. However you must first secure retirement visas for you and your wife and the 800,000 THB for you and the same for your Korean wife (1.6 million THB total). Untouchable funds in a Thai bank account.

If you can’t meet these criteria, your $2,800 a month pension doesn’t matter.

No can do. And 800,000 THB is only like $26,000. You should try to scrape that together first. Plus, since your wife is not Thai, she would have to do the same. So you will need 1.6 million THB between you.
