ORIGINAL POSTER
Is there anyone who can open a bank account for me with an ED visa?

I am looking for someone with connections in the bank to open a bank account with, or someone who is a bank employee. I will pay the fee.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post raises the question of whether one can open a bank account in Thailand with an ED visa. Several comments highlight various perspectives: some users claim it's possible with certain banks, while others emphasize it's often illegal for someone to assist in opening an account. Specific banks and strategies are mentioned, such as using an education visa with documentation from the school, but there's a consensus that obtaining the account independently is ideal. Users warn against relying on agents or unofficial help due to legal implications and suggest approaching banks directly.

8 years ago when I got my ED-visa, I asked the school to contact the bank and work things out for me. Before doing that I went to at least 4 or 5 branches, who all (more or less politely) sent me on my way. Ask your school, they probably have some contacts in some bank.

If you have long-term plans in Thailand, have you considered setting up a Thai company instead? It requires an initial budget of around 30k–50k THB, but it gives you a fully legal corporate bank account and a permanent solution without the headache.

If you need an account for yourself, you go to the bank with your passport but you must have a Non-ED. You probably need a letter confirming your student status from your university/college. You need a registered Thai sim card in your name.

I'll help you out, in a way that's sure to accomplish all you need. First go get a KBank Pay and Tour card and the TAGTHAI app - put some money on it. Then sign up for Revolut and open a Thai account. Now you can pay with QR using TAGTHAI and pay to bank accounts using Revolut instantly like a Thai account. If you need to get cash you can use Binance P2P or ask your Thai friend or partner. Help a girl out and sign up using my link.

The worse advise ever. The currency exchange rate in tagthai is dramatically bad.

Deeppocket will be better. Exchange it for THB at any bank and top it up.

Thai Visa Centre might be able to assist you with that. I know they can arrange a bank account for you. What the cost is and whether it can be done on your visa needs to be investigated.

For the love that all that is holy, can someone please open a new ‘Thai bank account opening’ group.

No one here seems to have more than a few beans anyway; always going on about Cheap Charlie boarder runs etc. So why the desperate, urgent need to open bank accounts since the crack down… Unless of course there’s another reason why you are in Thailand and wanting a bank account?

Robert McBrain a good reason to have a Thai bank account if staying in Thailand as a student for a year or longer is, not to have to pay the 250 baht ATM withdrawal fee that you get charged using as overseas bank card.

it is not illegal but doesnt meet the Thai gov guildline.

Gov did cracked down the accounts which agents helped clients without proper visas in Bangkok bank last year

Gov’s big picture is to avoid illegal money but honest like normal people they don’t understand.

In Thai there is no such good faith in law. However to have bank account as foreigner in Thai is the most easiest compare to the other countries

What's illegal? You opening your own bank account at a bank where an agent walks you in? How is that illegal? In what way? What specifically is illegal about YOU being in the bank and signing your own documents for your own bank account, but the agent brought you to the bank they know that will do it?

That's how EVERY bank account that an agent helps with is opened.
