in many places you since a few years need a TM30 registered accomodation adress in Thailand or a certificate of residence from Immigration, to get a SIM card, because for the SIM card registration process, your passport is not enough, they also need your adress

some banks are willing to open an account for you only if you buy one of their accident- or life insurances. They earn a provision for this. They often make it look like this is a mandatory rule, which it is not

Excuse my curiosity, but how would you have been able to show a paper TM6 card in your passport if you just went through the application ? The TM6 was discontinued two years ago and was only just replaced by the online TDAC that started on May 1st, 10 days ago

the problem is, a "retirement visa" can mean EIGHT different visa and stay permits. A U.S. American Citizen cannot use the monthly income proof for the 1-year Extension of Stay based on retirement (your alleged "retirement visa" which is WRONG terminology!) , because the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok does not issue an income affidavi

keep in mind: for the visa you apply in the USA, you can use your income as proof. However, for the extension you apply in Thailand, in the first year you can only use the 800K deposit. Not the combination and not the income. The problem is that for the visa, rules are made by the Thai Foreign Ministry. For the extension, the rules are made by the Ministry of Interior. These two ministries tend to make up different rules
