UPDATE: I went back with my old passport as well as my new one and was able to change the name and passport number on my account.

Thanks all for the advice!

Will turn off comments but leave the post in case anyone else finds themself in the same situation 😊

———————————

I need to change my name on my SCB bank account, after taking my husbands surname when we married. I have been to 2 different SCB banks and both told me I need a document that shows/verifies my name change. The second bank told me that I can get this from the British Embassy. I’ve emailed the Embassy and they say they don’t provide that, but that they can provide a certified copy of my passport.

So has anybody done this successfully and can shed some light?

The documents I took to the bank were

-passport

-Thai marriage certificate

Does anyone know the process for changing your last name in Thailand (UK citizen). Been married to my Thai husband for a couple of years, I need to renew my passport soon anyway so would like to take his name. Is it possible to do in Thailand and is it complicated with visa/ work permit being in my maiden name? Or is it too much hassle/ best to do when I next go to the UK?

Savannakhet single entry non-o marriage visa application today Wednesday 03/01/24

Arrived at 08:45 and was 6th in queue.

Had my ticket to return tomorrow by 09:20.

I took following documents:

▪️Passport and copy of data page and Laos visa & entry stamp

▪️Application form pre-filled and 2,000 baht (copy place across the road has these for 20 baht)

▪️Copy of wife’s passport signed by both her and I

▪️Copy of wife’s ID card signed by both her and I

▪️Copy of wife’s house registration book signed by both her and I

▪️Original Thailand marriage certificate and copy signed by both her and I.

▪️Copy of rental contract for our condo with both our names on. This is not listed on website, but they took the document off me. I also took owner’s house book and ID, TM30 and marriage registration (kor ror 2.) but they gave me those back.

Notes

A fellow Brit directly after me in the queue was originally declined because he didn’t have his wife’s certificate of name change. Luckily, his wife was outside and had the original on her. I DID NOT have this document but my application was accepted without them asking me for it 🤯

Therefore, I would advise you take a copy.

A number of Asian tourists were declined tourist visas because they’d already had one in last 365 days

Make sure you stand single file - very over zealous security guard takes his job extremely seriously 🤣

There is a copy place across from the consulate but it’s 20 baht per page - good for emergency document printing though.

Smile, nod, wai and hope the officer is in a good mood and that they don’t ask for documents not listed on the website!

Don’t buy cocaine offered by the tuk tuk drivers outside 🤦🏻‍♂️😂

Cheers 👍🏻

Greetings once again!

May some one please help with clear info regarding a marriage visa. We have completed all the paperwork necessary and i think im at the last stage of getting it all done.

Currently, my documents are with the local District office; letter from the British Embassy, Translated and Certified and the (Thai) wife-to-be ID etc as well.

Docs are under review/ "checking" at the district office as of today. We've been told that it take 3-4 weeks before we get them back with an actual date to get the marriage done and the certificate issued.

Now, I only have about 3 weeks remaining on my tourist stamp and i am looking for the best route to proceed here.

The TVC Agent suggested getting a Non Immigrant O visa for about 28k -and then the marriage visa for an additional 38k. We have all the docs and money just about ready- (money still needs to be deposited), so it seems a little expensive at this point to complete the final step.

TVC also did mention a 60day "Family visit" visa, which i presume i can obtain once i have the marriage certificate? I have a question regarding that; once i obtain the certificate, hopefully before my 3 weeks are up, may i then do a border bounce giving me more time to get the marriage visa done?

Your input is highly appreciated.

I know where I can have my Thai Marriage Certificate translated into English but where can I have it notarized as a true translation. According to the US Embassy website they do not do it. I need a notary that is recognized by the US Government. Any help is appreciated.
