I wish to retire to Thailand, i am 72 years old. I do not have 800000 baht but a pension of about 350000 baht per month. Can I still apply for a visa?

TLDR : Answer Summary
You can apply for a Thailand Retirement Visa without having 800,000 baht in a Thai bank account, as long as your monthly pension is at least 65,000 baht. Given that you have a pension of 350,000 baht per month, you meet the income requirement for the visa. However, you will need to provide documentation, such as a letter from your embassy or bank statements, to prove your income. It is also recommended to consult with a visa agent for detailed guidance on the application process.

Yes, you can apply for a Thailand Retirement Visa even if you do not have 800,000 baht in a Thai bank account, as long as you have a monthly pension of at least 65,000 baht. Since your pension is about 350,000 baht per month-well above the required 65,000 baht-you meet the financial requirement through income.
You will need to provide documentation, such as a letter from your embassy in Thailand verifying your monthly pension, or a 12-month bank statement showing regular deposits of at least 65,000 baht into a Thai bank account if your embassy does not issue such a letter.
You must also be at least 50 years old (which you are), have a valid passport, and provide other standard documents (passport photos, application forms, etc.
In summary: With your age and pension, you are eligible to apply for the Thailand Retirement Visa without needing the 800,000 baht deposit

We have a high monthly pension. But not the 350,000 baht a month. We can easily put 800,000 into more than 60 different Thai Banks.

If you have that kind of income, why not just save up for a couple of months? You'll then have the 800k.

I was 72 when I got here. I rented a condo and went to a visa agent That was 4 years ago. Just come here and stay in a hotel until you find a place you like . I didnāt know how to do the visa process so I paid a reputable agent.
If you dont have 800,000, then you best drop a zero. More like 35,000 baht/month pension. If you had a $350k pension, you'd save up $800k in no time. Lol. Try again Sparky

problem number one, as a U.S. citizen you could apply for the 90-days visa in the e-visa online system and get it issued based on your pension. But inside Thailand on Immigration you can't use your pension as financial proof, because your U.S. Embassy is not handing out legalized income affidavits any more . . . So in order to apply for the "1-year extension of the stay permit based on retirement", at least in the first year, you NEED a minimum of a 800,000 THB deposit sitting in your Thai bank account.
I can see where it is confusing because on the Visa web page, and everything else I read, it's worded in a way that says you can have the 800,000 bahts whether it's all cash OR a combination of things like monthly ss, disability, pension and cash COMBINED, so you would think having over 10,000 US a month coming in would be enough. At least that's the way it's way worded.
keep in mind: for the visa you apply in the USA, you can use your income as proof. However, for the extension you apply in Thailand, in the first year you can only use the 800K deposit. Not the combination and not the income. The problem is that for the visa, rules are made by the Thai Foreign Ministry. For the extension, the rules are made by the Ministry of Interior. These two ministries tend to make up different rules
the problem is, a "retirement visa" can mean EIGHT different visa and stay permits. A U.S. American Citizen cannot use the monthly income proof for the 1-year Extension of Stay based on retirement (your alleged "retirement visa" which is WRONG terminology!) , because the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok does not issue an income affidavi
thanks ! I will now keep my cash in Thailand bank instead, and just keep my annual income checks in USA bank... Nothing I have read displayed it the way you explained. Now you see why this newbie was confused !

not true, I got an OA 1 year retirement visa in UK purely on income back in 2022 as did not have the 800k and got a commissioners of oath to certify all the documents and submitted online via the London Thai embassy. I received the visa online about a week later.....i see on the lindon thai embassy you can still go down the lump sum or income route orxa combination both.
Right? If it was 350k, he'd save up 800k quick fast. In fact, he'd have way more than 800k saved up in the bank. š

You need 25k USD in a savings account for at least 6 months saved. Doesn't matter what you make ( 800k baht ) I've asked this same thing for DTV I'm not old enough to get a retirement visa, I was told its good to have the money in an account somewhere for a fee months straight
if his pension is really that high he will be in Thailand shortly thatās why I commented it. Relax my guy. Itās only Facebook. You will live to see another day
š literally not one thing HH has that Pattaya doesnāt⦠(excluding the grumpy expats) ⦠and there are plenty of things Pattaya has that HH doesnāt..
approx 10k US per month still a handy sum. Donāt know the name of it but I would suggest the Visa that requires 80,000 US a month annual income. I think the cost is ąøæ50,000 and itās good for five years. I think they referred to it as the wealthy pensioners Visa.
It's drives me nuts when people ask questions and you get people replying with blunt, POINTLESS answers, like, 'do you research'. When it is clearly trying to start his or her research. Tom, I am not retired yet, but i do know there are limits depending on if you have income or savings or a combination of both. You can combine savings and income. If you find out the exact amounts please share anything you find out as I would like to add to my new YouTube channel I staeted purely for my vlog journey.
unfortunately m8 this site is full of āperfect people ā who know everything and have never asked a question about anything ever .. šššš
peopke who offer nothing but a sarcastic or useless answer are all too common. I donāt know how accurate this is, but to the best of my knowledge, if you donāt have the 800,000 baht in the bank, (Thai bank) or the 65,000 baht per month income , then the combination would have to equal 800,000 baht per year. So that could be, 400,000 in the bank plus an income of around 34,000 baht per month. Thatās just how I understand it, it may be more complicated than that. I think the first year you āmayā have to have the 800,000 in the bank, but Iām not sure. Iām not an expert, thatās why Iām reluctant to offer advice here. But there may be someone here who knows the full answers. Agents can navigate the complexities with ease and avoid the financial requirements, but not everyone wants to use them.
Hi Tom. This sounds pretty accurate to me.from what i have heard myself. I am myself in a mission to find this very information from a reliable source. If i do find something, I wil be happy to share and likewise if you find info, could you also please share your findings.
