The biggest concern is if the agency stamp is legitimate. What if there is a crackdown and the stamp is found to be illegitimate ?

Secondly, I have an aversion to supporting corruption.

No easy nor cheap options. I think OA Visa if you have THB 800,000 but you will need general insurance of THB 400,000 hospitalization and THB 40,000 for out patient PLUS USD 100,000 COVID insurance plus hotel quarantine and negative COVID test within 72 hours and a police clearance and fit to fly

A lot of hoops for a short stay

then the closest Thai Embassy will issue you a non O and a COE once you get USD 100,000 COVID insurance and ASQ hotel and flight
