the overstay of 500 baht per day is only part of your problem.

Any overstay days are 'paid back' on the extension.

20 days overstay is 10,000 baht. The extension is then only 10 days once the 20 days is paid back

ETD are no longer issued to enter Thailand unless you have a valid non immigrant visa.

You cannot obtain an extension using an ETD.

as I have said, if your visa/extension runs out and you don't have a passport to stamp, you will be on overstay

no. The UK don't issue temporary passports. They will issue an Emergency travel document to leave the country. You cannot get an extension on them.

You will be on overstay until you get the new passport and apply for the extension

You best be quick as a UK passport holder attempting entry to any EU country after the 1st January within the EEA, or Schengen-associated states, Norway has also confirmed it will bar UK visitors from 1st January.

The Pre-Work Permit Approval Letter (WP3) is required for issuance of Non-Immigrant B visas at the Royal Thai Consulate/Embassy in certain countries. ... Employees must still enter Thailand with a Non-Immigrant B visa to finalize the process of work permit issuance within 30 days.

no. You can either use an agent or apply online via VFS. You make a booking and drop everything off, then you collect the new passport once it arrives.

An agent will do it all for 5000 baht plus the passport cost

The British Embassy have nothing to do with passports. You go through VFS Global in Bangkok via the online application system
