Re-registration and photo to send more than 50,000 baht for an internal transfer.

Just so people are aware, K-bank has no requirement for foreign account holders to do this. You can still send whatever you apply in the app.

Only Thais need to register now.

I've just had a long drawn out conversation at their head office in Bangkok about it.

This only applies to K-bank account holders.

I've no idea what other Thai banks require.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Recent discussions highlight that K-bank has no requirement for foreign account holders regarding photo registration for internal transfers exceeding 50,000 baht, unlike Thai account holders. Other banks like SCB and Bangkok Bank also reportedly have similar guidelines. However, some commenters indicate that various banks may have different operational policies, such as requiring foreigners to have their photo taken at branches for larger transactions, reflecting ongoing changes and security measures in the banking system in Thailand.

Krungsri asks for you to call into any of there banks to get photo taken, so you can transfer more than 50,000 baht in one go on the app.

Kasikorn Bank, Bangkok Bank, and SCB are the same, with no restrictions on more than bt50,000 transfers.

I was told by Bangkok bank and Krungsri to come to the bank and have my photo taken if I wanted to transfer more than 49.999 baht from abroad - this was in April /May this year

guess what? We are talking about internal transfers.

Foreigners have no need to register using a K-Bank account but your Thai old woman does need to register, no matter what you think.

Bangkok Bank has a 50.000 THB transfer (sent money! ) restriction .You have to see your local bank office for identification.

No it doesn't. That is my main bank (I have three different accounts with them), and I get more than that every month in a single transaction.

SCB have the face recognition on their app, but i was told it was only for Thais.

I went into the local branch a few days ago and signed a form saying I waive verification by face recognition.

scb and ttb no limit

have you tried it recently? It's a Thai banking requirement, that over 50kthb or 200kthb in 24 hours requires face ID on transfer on an app, the pictures needs to be done at the bank.

You can put your picture in the app if you want to. You simply use the edit function but it doesn't mean anything

Do they even have an option to let foreigners register their photo? I'd like to get ahead of any issues and do it but I'm not sure they'll even allow it.

@Brandon ***********
that's what Bangkok Bank wants you to do.

in the App, no. I've already been in a number of banks before I get blanked transferring in the app but the banks have no idea.

Hence I contacted the head office but foreigners don't need to and cannot register.

Here's a screen shot from the app hence why I contacted them

yes. The bank guarantee is now one million baht should the bank fold BUT if you're scammed, it's basically buyer beware, the same for everyone
Brandon ************
@Ron ******
well the same for all foreigners since they won't let us add the biometric safety features

yes. It's much like the bank employee that scammed from people's accounts during COVID. Many foreigners lost millions of baht. The employee left the country and as far as I know, those people still haven't got their money back.

Although bank scams are quite rare here, there isn't much in place to get your money back.

Most scams are done via a text. You open the text and it places a key stroke logging software on your phone which enables them to read everything you type.

Just don't open any texts or Facebook messages from someone you have no idea of.
