What documents are required to replace a damaged UK passport in Thailand, and can I get assistance at VFS Global?

For a damaged Uk passport to be replaced, it seems like so many docs are needed and is a bit confusing. Is it possible to just go to the trendy building and get help from someone that works there?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Replacing a damaged UK passport in Thailand involves several steps and documentation. You cannot just walk into VFS Global at The Trendy; appointments are required on specific days (Mon/Wed/Fri). It is suggested to bring photocopies of your damaged passport, fill in forms, and complete payment forms. There is assistance available, including translation services for a fee. Emergency Travel Documents (ETDs) are issued in urgent cases; however, they are only valid if you can show proof of emergency travel needs. Overstaying due to passport issues may incur significant fines. It's advisable to check in advance about the specifics of obtaining a temporary passport or ETD.

Never heard of a "Temp" passport only a ETD. I do know of a Brit family lost their passports in Cambodia the other year. they got ETD from British Embassy in PP. They used to ETD to apply for Visas to Thailand at Thai Embassy in PP. they travelled to BKK and applied for passport at VFS. Waited around a few weeks for delivery. Hopefully you could do something similar in-country?

the overstay of 500 baht per day is only part of your problem.

Any overstay days are 'paid back' on the extension.

20 days overstay is 10,000 baht. The extension is then only 10 days once the 20 days is paid back

See my post above - see if you can get a visa on the ETD. I know your case is different being in-country unlike theirs being in Cambodia. I know the story as my pal was British Ambassador in Cambodia at the time.

ETD are no longer issued to enter Thailand unless you have a valid non immigrant visa.

You cannot obtain an extension using an ETD.

When did this stop? My pal finished as Ambassador in Cambodia in 2018 so case I refer to must have been earlier in that year.

Reading that it would seem the case I mention is still valid (Outside Covid of course). Get ETC for example in PP. Apply at Thai Embassy for visa to Thailand. enter Thailand and apply for UK passport, get it after a few weeks and continue travels. Covid would be the constraint at this moment though

you are 100% correct. ETD’s are ONLY issued in cases where you can evidence an emergency in order to travel back to the U.K. The ETD is then taken from you by UK border and you need to apply for a new passport once back in the U.K. Thus a replacement passport will be needed.

The only other one I know of is where the 2 countries accept ie Singapore and Hong kong. when I lived in Singapore was waiting of new passport i was told I could go to Hong Kong on business and back again on a ETD. Very much the exception though.

All you can do is ask but I doubt it will even be looked at in Liverpool this year. I thought only temp documents were ETD to get home or to travel to countries allowed ie I could used ETD from Singapore to Hong Kong and back.

You fill in the form; photocopy all the pages of your damaged passport; complete the payment form; make an appointment at VFS/The Trendy (Sukhumvit soi 13); take it all to them.

I would. It took over 8 weeks to renew my son's passport. Once you submit the application it's sent to HMPO in Liverpool. Due to Christmas and Covid, I would think they are taking a while.

no. The UK don't issue temporary passports. They will issue an Emergency travel document to leave the country. You cannot get an extension on them.

You will be on overstay until you get the new passport and apply for the extension

No. But check the schedule which shows what extra info you need. You may need proof of address in Thailand.

Depends on how busy they are; usually a couple of weeks. You can "walk-in" but you have to pay 1500 baht.

The goofballs who run the translation visa services on the ground floor can help you (for a fee)

BUT

believe me it is not beyond the ability of most people to get a new UK passport from VFS Global in Trendy on your own.

You can't just show up. I think VFS Global is only letting people in for passport stuff on Mon/Wed/Fri.
