Hello I have a question regarding the 30 day extensions. I am an American who is in Thailand on my 60 visa free entry. I already did my 30 extension giving me a total of 90 days.

I plan to do a boarder run and come back for another 30 days. Will I be able to do another extension after I do the boarder run? Giving me a total of 60 days.

Thanks in advance for any information

*Edit to add*

This is my first time in Thailand. I have no other history here ever other than what I posted.
Answer summary
The user, an American on a 60-day visa-free entry in Thailand, is asking if they can obtain another 30-day extension after doing a border run, having already extended their stay once. Responses suggest that while it's possible to request another extension, approval can be uncertain and often depends on the immigration officer's discretion and the individual's immigration history. Some recommend obtaining a single-entry tourist visa during the border run for a more straightforward extension or considering alternative visa options.

Simply get a Single entry tourist visa in the country you are doing the boarder run to,this will give you 60 days in Thailand or if you are over 50 get a Non O 90 day and exstent it to 12 months if you wish or just do the 90 days.

The other thing you can do on your border Run is purchase a visa then you can stay longer without the fuss

You'll probably be ok doing a border run with a known visa run company. But the extension is anyone's guess. You'll need a very good reason to convince the IO for another 30 day extension .

Here in Phuket is getting VERY strict.. chok Dee na krap

Providing you don’t have a massive history of already doing so, yes.

Jord Reep At some Immigration Offices they accept only one 30 day extension, the second would be 7 days.

When you already are in the country for 120 days only interrupted by a border run to get a fresh stamp, you exactly behave the way they want to prevent with the stricter rules.

I would not be that sure a new 30 days extension will be granted.

Luit van der Linde I’ve done 3 30 days extensions in calendar year before with no issues.

If they had a set limit on entires and extensions I could understand your argument, but they don’t. It’s “embassy and IO depending”

There is also no where that states the amount of time one must spend outside of Thailand before re entering.

Until those are genuine rules and not just hearsay.

Expats in this group are stricter than Thai immigration 😆😆

Jord Reep The 7 days extension as second extension in a year is certainly not only hearsay, it is a rule followed by many offices.

What you did BEFORE did not matter, we live NOW and what happened to you is nice to know, but does not guarantee anything at all

The Immigration officer you ask for a second extension in a row, will look at your recent 12-18 months stay history. You haven't told us much about this history, only that you entered visa exempt, got 60 days stamped and extended it with 30 days. . . . . . . . So, when he sees that you have already accumulated 60 + 30 + 30 = 120 days within a one-year period, he might decide that you have reached your personal limit. We can't know for sure. In his case he might only grant you the stamp "application denied, you have 7 days to leave the kingdom"

Greg Alexander he said it's his first time in Thailand

Ronnie Jasper That it is his first time, he edited after my replies.

The Immigration officer he intends to ask for a second extension, will look at his recent 12- months stay history.

He entered visa exempt, got 60 days stamped and extended it with 30 days.

That’s his only entry history.

He is going to do a second visa exempt entry, which will catapult his stay permits to 120 days.

So, when an Immigration officer sees that he already accumulated 120 days within a one-year period, he might decide that he has reached his personal limit.

We can't know for sure. It is up to the Immigration officer to decide.

In his case there is a risk that he might only grant the stamp "application denied, you have 7 days to leave the kingdom"

ArticulateOstrich15 I am missing an overview of the complete history of the previous 12-months period. If there wasn't any more entry into Thailand, everything is fine. But if there was more than just the 60+30, you need to tell us so we can assess the actual risk. In case you have been to Thailand for 60 days in January and February 2026, you better FORGET your planned border run and return to your home country or travel to another country than Thailand. 150 days accumulated total stays within a 1-year period on visa-exemptions, carry a high rick of denial

ArticulateOstrich15 depends on the visa you want to apply for. DTV, Non-OA and METV yes. Others can be applied for at any consulate that allows non residents to apply
