Can I use a hotel address to open a Thai bank account on a Tourist visa?
Will a hotel booked for 2 months be accepted as an address for opening a Thai bank account ? I`m Arriving for 60 days with a Tourist TR visa

OPThere is alot of contradictory information and everybody is very certain about their facts. However even visa agents have differing opinions. Some say that it is impossible to open a bank on a TR visa, some say they can do it !! 🧐 Lets see. Thankyou to all the people who gave a civil reply 👍

Angelo Schneider yes, you are indeed wrong. Even very few connected agents offer the service any more. Not sure how much longer they will be able to do it either. You obviously have not tried to open a bank account on a tourist visa lately

No. You can't open a bank account on a tourist visa. It doesn't matter what you can provide. You need to be on a Non-immigrant visa to open a bank account

Angelo Schneider Agents opening bank accounts on less than long term residency based visas,such as Non O, are still doable? I have not heard of any in recent year or so… reason is that scams and such have put banks on thr defensive, to make sure the customers are using bank accounts for legit reasons…hence it is not about english comprehension of the staff, it is about bank compliance to existing KYC and anti money laundering rules.

there is no law, you are correct. But last year the Bank of Thailand issued a directive regarding their KYC rules that means it's no longer possible for those on tourist visas to open bank accountsAngelo ***********

Why? Because there is no law preventing you from opening a bank account on a tourist visa or visa exempt. Simple.It is just so that many banks have no English speaking staff, and do not want to do it.
Or why do you think a random agent suddenly can make an account for you?

Thankyou, i didn`t want to apply outside Thailand as that retirement visa requires health insurance / police checks etc. I was hoping paying a visa agent might work it outJohn **********

you misunderstood the requirements. You can get a 90 day Non-O visa outside of Thailand and then a 12 month extension once you're inside Thailand with funds in a Thai bank account. The Non-O visa doesn't require health insurance or police checks

David Baker yes, but to open retirement visa inside the Thailand you need 800k batt on your Thai bank account which you can not open without this visa already in place 🤷♂️😀
