For the people that were asking about the Ranong - Kawthaung (Myanmar) border run, here’s my experience of today:

Arrived at the pier by car, were driving around slowly looking for a sign to confirm we were in the correct location and a parking spot. A guy knocked on my window, asked if we were going to Burma and we agreed then and there to go on his boat (THB500 return trip per person), he helped us park, make copies of our passports and guided us to immigration.

Stamped out, got on the boat, it stops at 2 additional checkpoints on the Thai side and one on the Myanmar side. Docked in front of immigration, had to pay US$10 plus THB100 (the $ has to be new and unfolded). We decided we wanted to have a look around town so immigration kept our passports (“pick them up on your way out”) and agreed an additional THB500 with the boat guy for his time waiting for us.

Walked around a bit, bought some refreshments using THB, no problem. After an hour went back, got our passports, went back by boat (stopping again at 2 out of 3 checkpoints).

Upon arrival in Ranong, you have to ‘buy’ a TM6 (arrival) card for THB100, fill it in and hand your passport to immigration. Got stamped in no questions asked (despite a gazillion stamps, (covid) extensions, etc) and off we went.

On the Myanmar side I asked some questions about staying/going further into the country, this is what they told me:

You can stay for up to 2 weeks, but are limited to a 20km radius from the immigration office.

You CAN go further into Myanmar, including the Mergui archipelago but only with a visa. At the moment there is no diving, only snorkeling possible. There is fighting ongoing about 60km from Kawthaung, so caution is required.

He also said a liveaboard boat has illegally entered the Mergui archipelago and was apprehended by the navy and is now chained there with 19 ppl on board.

Any questions, let me know!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼

Laos border bounce experience @ Chiang Khong crossing.

As background, I have a US passport and have been in Thailand on a combination of exempt stamps (2), COVID extensions (3) and one Thai Tourism visa with a few 30 day extensions. Needless to say, my options for short term approvals are becoming very narrow.

The Chang Khong border is actually quite nice. Very quiet, and not more that 20 travelers there at the time of my crossing. Getting stamped out of course was no problem. You take a bus across the Friendship Bridge that takes about 5 minutes, but it's only running once an hour, so you can find yourself waiting for quite awhile if your timing is unlucky. 20 baht there and 25 baht back for the bus ride. I don't know why the prices are different.

The man at the Laos border was helpful(?) But I feel like he scammed me. I read online that it was $40 USD for the Laos visa, but then he told me it was $45 USD or 1900 baht ($55 USD). He refused to take my USD when I told him I had both currencies. I think he just knew that the baht was a better deal for him. Nonetheless I got the visa and got stamped in and out of Laos in 5 minutes. NO visa photos needed since I wasn't entering the country. Super easy, just more expensive than was expected.

Waited 55 minutes for the bus back to Thailand.

When I arrived back to the Thai border, I was slightly nervous about re-entry even though I had read that you get two land border bounces a year. I was surprised that they required us to fill out the old TM6 card that to my understanding is no longer used. Not a big deal though. I waited for 5 minutes. The Thai border agent was very nice and professional. He double checked where I said I was staying in Chiang Mai and made sure that the address matched the building name, to have a very quick look at my stamps and let me back in with a 45 day exempt stamp. No issues at all thankfully. Hope this helps some people. The entire process took about 90+ minutes and cost 1995 baht.

Please help. So I am currently in Thailand as a UK citizen on the visa exemption for 30 days, I would like to extend for an additional 30 days at an immigration office here but they recently dropped the use of TM6 (arrival/departure) card for arrivals into Thailand so I didn't get one when they stamped my passport on the way in but as I understand you need this doc for the extention? Anyone else done this? Thank you x

I've been to Thailand many times pre COVID, but to be sure in these strict re entry times, I have a question.

When filling the TM 6 card, would you have to put the SHA+Q hotel staying only one night " hopefully".

Also the house address where I will spend the duration of my visit 60 days +.

Or just the house address only, that I normally show.

Hello, I am preparing to make my first 90 day report and seem to have lost my TM6 card. I have a photo of it, will that be sufficient to complete my report? If not how do I go about having it replaced? TIA
