I have just arrived in Thailand 2 days ago (BKK) and I'm looking to extend my visa exmeption (30 days) (UK citizen).

What do I need to take with me to immigration to achieve this?

I've contacted my AirBnB owner (booked for 7 days) for a TM30 but she is saying she needs to contact the immigration department about this.

Thanks.

Hello,

If you go to immigration in Chiang Mai and apply for an extension of a 30-day visa exemption, what happens if they've not made a decision by the time you leave? Also, if they do make a decision and grant you the extension, do you absolutely have to go back to immigration, or can you just show at the airport that the extension was granted?

Many thanks in advance.

I inform European citizens who have heard the news of the automatic extension of tourist visa to 60 days that as of today the Thai Embassy in Rome is not aware of any initiative defined by the government for the automatic extension of the visa so the procedure is the same as followed years ago . For a stay of more than 30 days, you need to apply for a visa at the embassy or go to the tourist police once you have arrived in Thailand and extend your visa.

-------------

How soon able to extend visa exemption?

Hi all,

US visitor here planning on entering Thailand with a 30 day visa exemption. I'd like to extend the exemption for another 30 days as soon as possible after landing, because I have a 45 day meditation retreat so I want to avoid leaving to do a visa extension run later. (I messed up by not applying for the 60 day tourist visa on time)

I've heard that the Bangkok and Chiang Mai immigration are the most relaxed and can extend visas as early as the day of landing, so you don't have to wait a week before visa expires..

Two questions then:

1) Does that sound right - that it's possible to extend a visa / exemption within a few days of landing?

2) What are the embassies in nearby countries that do the fastest tourist visa processing? (Also considering this option)

Thank you in advance 🙏

Hello all,

My wife and I have one way tickets to Bangkok from the UK next week we will be entering Thailand under a 30 day visa exemption, we will be travelling north through Thailand to the Laos border, not sure how long we will take to get there - Around 10 days I guess but it is flexible.

We will be travelling light and haven't booked onward travel, we intend to take the slow boat when we get into Laos from Huay Xai onwards.

There is no option to buy a ticket for the public boat online which would prove onward travel, does this pose a risk for boarding the flight with Thai Airways? If so, any advice on workarounds?

Before posting I have read various posts and will phone the Thai Airways next week to enquire further.

I am looking at onwardflights.com as a backup if that is actually required.

Any advice very much appreciated.
