You can do it either at Immigration or at the airport. It costs you 1000 (depending on the airport plus an additional fee) Baht. Make sure, to come back to Thailand, before your extension expires. Even with re-entry permit you can not enter anymore after the stamp expired.

Yep, +1 for Vientiane. I'm here at the moment for a new ED visa. The last time I came here, I travelled through Laos. Vientiane is great. Takes you one night here to get it done and also in about one to two days you have seen the capital and you can go on to Vang Vieng, Luang Prabang, Luang Namtha, Nong Khiaw or wherever you want to go. Good thing is also to start in Vientiane and then head north to Huay Xai where you cross the border to Thailand in Chiang Rai or to go south and cross it in Mukdahan.

Well, it‘s better for governments finances and supports the taxi economy 😊

This is how it works! Except that I have to go every 60 days for an extension. Not sure what this depends on.

Yep, went there last week. Entered through the back entrance since my taxi driver got lost and was told to leave the building again to get in the queue outside.

A quick follow-up:

Went to get a new extension on Tuesday. On the form (TM7) for the extension of stay my school already wrote my new address. During the process of the extension the immigration officer asked me, if my address (the old one that was in their system) was still correct. I told her, that I had moved and showed her the new address on the form. She changed it in the system and that was it.

Thank you all for your replies.

Thanks, Robert. Thought, maybe I should report it myself but gonna leave it then.

Thanks, Christian. Because the hotel is gonna report my stay, so maybe immigration will wonder if I moved. But I‘m gonna skip that visit and do it with the extension.

Yes, you can extend your stays (60 days) by 30 days and leave the country after a total of 90 days. If you want to get the most out of the visa, leave and enter again just before your visa expires and you get another 60 days stamp that you are able to extend again.

Mae Sai should be your choice - but others might have experience with that border hop.

The hotel has to notify the immigration about your stay. Just go to the hotel and tell them you need a paper to prove, that you‘re staying there. Then take that to immigration. They will give you the certificate. Costs about 500 Baht and needs 2 passport pictures - not sure anymore about these details. We went to Bangkok Bank first, got a sample of that immigration letter, went there and asked for that, then the guy at the information counter gave as a form that the hotel had to fill in. Then back the next day and we got the Certificate. My father needed it and he was on visa exemption.
