Hey guys 😊

Looking for some help in regards to my AUSTRALIAN 6 Month Multi-Entry Visa.

I am located in Chiang Mai.

Can i extend my visa at immigration for an extra 30 days after each 60 day entry period, totaling my stay in thailand to 9 months?

Every 60/90 days ill have to do a border run. Im looking for the cheapest/closest/most convenient border to renew my visa. Ive heard MaeSai is only 4 hours away by bus. Is there any other border u guys can reccomend for me? Can someone point me in the direction on how i can organise transport to MaeSai, and is MaeSai suitable for my type of visa? Can they give me the full 60 days entry upon renewal?

Any and all information is helpful, im not experienced with this! (asap as my first visa entry expires tomorrow lol!)

Thanks in advance πŸ™πŸ½

Thank you
@Mark ******
, I just did this as suggested by you in another post. I got a VIP seat reserved via Green Bus website and went to my nearby 7-11 to pay. The ticket just looks like a receipt with payment amount, time of bus, and seat assignment (2A) πŸ™‚

Now I believe this is all I need:

-Passport (obviously)

- 500 baht or 10 USD for day pass to Myanmar

-15 baht for song tauw to border

-baht for lunch

-sweater and socks for freezing cold bus

Am I missing anything? I’m giving myself two hours before the return to take care of business and eat lunch.

(This is my first border crossing, I’m currently on a 60 SETV from the US and already did the 30 day extension, which expires next week.)

That's the place. There are two terminals when you arrive... one on the left, one on the right. Yours is the one on the right (evident by all the green buses parked there ;))

This one β€œTerminal 2”?

Sounds all in order!

At Myanmar immigration you will be offered the option to shop in Myanmar or just go back to Thailand. With your 2 hour window, I would just go back, grab lunch and then catch the song theaw to the bus station. Sometimes when there are groups crossing, there can be a backup of people getting into Thailand.

Be sure you go to the correct bus station in Chiang Mai (Arcade out towards Central Festival). Have a good trip!

as a matter of interest i was at Mae Sai yesterday travelling from Phayao, for my Multi 0 90 days extension arrived 8 30 was over and back at 11 30 after visiting duty free shop, for refreshments,,,,,was pretty quiet mainly Chinese / Japanese at border, also was speaking to a young couple Italian and Belgian nationalitys, who told me they got refused a land crossing to Myamar and were told to fly in even that they had a Myamar visa and were trying to book a flight from Chiang Mai,so a wasted jouney i suppose,,,

If you come to Thailand without a Visa, you get an Visa Exempt entry from Immigration. It is not a Visa granted on arrival, it is a 30 day Admitted to Stay period.

what is the visa exempt entry? is that the 30 day tourist visa granted upon arrival?
Robert *******
Justin Shin You can only do 2 land border crossings a calendar year if you using the Visa Exempt Entry. It is not limited to a border crossing but issued for all land and sea borders. No limit if you come in by airplane. See this announcement:

can you only do a maximum of 2 land crossings a year at one border? ive never heard of this, could u guys explain? 😊
Terry **********
yep as you say if already done 2 land crossings they should of known, they could not,,,i did tell them to check with this site also
Terry **********
did not ask as they were already on there way to said Mae Sai Complex to get organised from there i suppose for a flight
Robert *******
Refused for what reason? Maybe already did 2 landborder crossings earlier this year?

Lots of people will be taking the 15 baht song theaw to and from the border...just follow the crowd.

Book green bus online (get a VIP seat...first 4 rows) to Mae Sai. Choose to pay at 7-11 and just take the code to any 7-11 where you pay and your receipt is your ticket.

I go 8 am there.... 2:30 pm back.

Did a search and found this, it is posted 3 months ago: Happy to report a successful border crossing. Managed to get a return bus from CM for 365 baht, I would advise booking in advance as I turned up at the bus station around 12.30 yesterday and the next available seat wasnt until 5pm which didn't get into Mae Sai until 10pm after the border closes at 9pm. I had the same problem trying to get back to Chiang Mai last time, turning up at the Mae Sai bus station at 9am and not getting back to CM until 10pm so make sure to book in advance! (I also have experience booking and paying for a Green bus ticket online and then being called on the day i was due to travel to be told the bus was fully booked and there was no space for me. So better to buy a physical ticket from the bus station or a travel agent.) The bus station in Mae Sai is quite far from the border so you'll spend 30 bhat on the song taew each way in and out. And even spending 350 on a hotel for the night(Mae Sai complex you can find on Agora and is really close to the border, which opens at 6.30am fyi) it's still a much cheaper way of doing things. I recommend changing some baht into dollars in advance as it's either 500 baht or $10(which is around 340 bhat) for the Myanmar day pass so you can save a little here but I totally forgot this time.

Yes, you can extend your stays (60 days) by 30 days and leave the country after a total of 90 days. If you want to get the most out of the visa, leave and enter again just before your visa expires and you get another 60 days stamp that you are able to extend again.

Mae Sai should be your choice - but others might have experience with that border hop.

I have seen posts from competent people saying that only one of the 60 day entries can be extended. But this may depend on the Immigration Office you go to.
Thomas ********************
Right. And I seem to recall Chiang Mai not being among the most user friendly.
Joe ***********
Yes Thomas I believe it is a mixed bag depending on the Immigration Office. One of those inconsistencies

I've extended three entries on the same visa in Bangkok before.
