Bring your passport, birth cert, and marriage cert to Bangkok.

You’ll need a special passport certification from your embassy

Then all 3 need to be translated and MFA certified

You’ll also need a Thai SIM in your name to open a bank account

I had to also get a yellow book and Pink ID to open a bank account

Also registering in Thailand as married (Kor Ror 22)

You’ll also need to do your tm30 and Thai address registration at your local immigration office

Get heaps of photos taken for ID / paperwork

I’ve attached info on the lady I used for the translation and MFA (ministry of foreign affairs) certification - not too far from the Australian embassy

Avoid Bangkok bank for your banking requirements as they seem to be problematic with freezing your funds (I’ve had KTB and Kasikorn accounts - prefer Kasikorn)

Birth, Marriage, and passport need to be translated and MFA certified,

Thai evisa,

Truckload of ID photos (get at least 10),

Resident cert from immigration

Thai Sim in your name

Kor Ror 22 ( bank still wanted it even though had the MFA translation)

Copies of your passport page and entry stamp

Wife’s blue book

Wife’s Thai ID

Some photos of you and the wife inside and outside your house (have different clothes in each picture)

I’d even have your TDAC (entry QR code) ready

The biggest hurdle is the banks in the provinces, they just don’t understand the rules and will not listen to you telling them their job

Id also have a printout in Thai of the requirements for foreigners to open an account (with the link, so they can look it up) - don’t throw it in their face just have all your paperwork in a tidy folder with that on top si its what everyone has to look at when they’re going through your certificates and copies

Michael Bramieri it’s no excuse for Australia to label every Thai woman a prostitute unless proven otherwise

FFS even the immigration officer at Perth airport was trying to set up a date with my wife when she first entered

It’s quite difficult for thais to get tourist visas in Australia

For some reason Australia seems to be anti Thai

For my daughters wedding they wouldn’t let her cousin and her Aunty come on a tourist visa

Even using an agent we only managed to get the cousin in on a sponsored visa

I would use an agent especially for the first visit

John Massey I just went through it 3 months ago

Banks in the provinces make it difficult

Needed evisa, immigration letter, TM 30, SIM card, yellow book, Thai ID, MFA translations of birth and marriage certs, passport certified by Australian embassy, and finally a Kor Ror 22

Unfortunately it is up to the individual Immigration Officer to request whatever they feel is necessary.

On top of that you have bank staff hell bent on refusing to let foreigners open an account.

Bank teller asked for Kor Ror 22 even though I had the MFA marriage certificate translation, so after getting the KR22 they just copied my MFA cert and ignored the KR22 - took 5 attempts of getting stuffed around, and I had all the paperwork they used the first time I went in.

The bank was the main hurdle for me, immigration was a breeze.

Why do you need a marriage certificate to open a bank account anyway?

Once you arrive register at your local immigration office TM30, registration letter for bank

Apply for yellow book and ID, get SIM,

Will probably need MFA copies of your passport, marriage certificate, birth certificate, I also got police clearance (which the bank took?)

You have 1 month to get your money into a bank account for the visa extension

Good luck and I’d avoid Bangkok bank and KTB
