Is the quote of 260,000 baht for DTV visa processing reasonable?

Jan 16, 2025
2 days ago
I have contacted a visa agent about getting help with the DTV. They told me it would be 130,000baht each for myself and my husband ( total 260,000baht). That sounds a little outrageous but I've never done this before. Please advise! Thank you!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster questions the high fees quoted by a visa agent for the Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) application, totaling 260,000 baht for two applicants. Multiple comments advise against using an agent, highlighting that the application fee is significantly lower (around 10,000 baht), and many expats suggest that the process can be easily handled personally. Comments reinforce that the alleged agent's price is considered outrageous, potentially indicating a scam, and offer various resources and experiences of individuals who successfully navigated the visa application themselves.

My wife and I are within weeks of applying for the DTV and we will 100% do it ourselves. Step one: identify/confirm which Thai Embassy or Consultate you'll be going through. Call them to confirm, as the requirement vary slightly between different consulates. In our case, since we are Residents of Texas (USA), we MUST go through the Thai Embassy in Washington DC. Step two: ask the Embassy staff that processes visas - all of your questions, because they are the ones that will review, approve, or deny your application, no one else. They are very friendly and helpful. With their help, it seems the process will be quite simple. Good luck! John

Much cheaper to do it yourself, just require a bit of patience sometimes depending on the embassy! Good luck!

Because it a 5 year visa

No money for agent every year

If the are requiring all the normal information anything more then 5000 baht is too much. I could help with soft power for 4000 baht if you have 500K in bank

Plus the cost of class.

It looks like a high price, but to tell if it is reasonable we also have to know your situation, and what is included in the price.

Donā€™t pay this amount of money. This is not worth, do it by yourself, it will cost you 10 times less.

Very low risk to get rejected if you have all necessary documents and using the e-visa system.

You can only apply for the DTV from outside Thailand. You apply via Evisa to the countries Embassy you are in and remain there until its either approved or refused. You will have to prove you are in that country and can be asked to attend interview.

That visa you can not apply inside Thailand, always some embassy. Just ask demands wich country you are gonna make it (what are demands and needs, here is lots of story about diffenrent countries) and just start. They ask more documents if there is not all, it wonā€™t rejected right away.

Do it yourself, the agents canā€™t do much help anyway, since you have to apply outside Thailand only, and you have to physical be in the country, where you apply.

You also have to supply all the documents yourself anyway, so why pay somebody else to send them in to the Embassy.

If using an agent and soft power option without any soft power I.e no Muay Thai classes. People are saying when you extend for 6 months at immigration they want to see full evidence of original application. So best case is you would always have to do a border bounce. Can anyone clarify ?

Itā€™s much more affordable to do yourself and itā€™s not that difficult, but you must be outside of Thailand apply.

If you do not qualify and things are being "handled" then you have to pay exorbitant amounts.

So the obvious question of the OP is do you qualify, money in bank etc. Or is the agent "fixing" it?

If you qualify yes it's fairly simple.

To prevent potential issues with authorities, consider using an agency. Unfortunately, some officials can be difficult, even with perfect documentation.

I experienced this near Poi Pet when switching from an ED to a tourist visa, despite having a pre-approved visa from the Phnom Penh Thai embassy.

However, my current work visa process was seamless thanks to an agency (and the HR at my workplace).

Joe *********
@Nick ******
I am mostly certainly on topic. Pmsl.
Wylie *******
@Joe ********
you're talking about something completely different. One, you say you had a pre-approved tourist visa from Phnom Penh so the "difficulties" you are talking about must be at the border with the immigration officer. Two, you had difficulties because of the previous education visa. Getting an agent to help obtain the visa does not help with any potential difficulties upon entry with the immigration officers.
Joe *********
@Wylie ******
5) It actually helps, though.

8) Because they can speak Thai to the authorities. It goes a long way.
Wylie *******
@Joe ********
I'm not denying it helps to get the visa. Your initial comment only mentions the difficulty you had entering the country with the immigration officer. Your issue was also due to previously having the education visa. An agent can't help anyone with either of those.
Joe *********
@Wylie ******
14) Obviously! Plus, having an agent does help with both visa applications and at the border. If you're applying for a work visa, an agent isn't needed for the paperwork (unless your job is with an education agency).
Wylie *******
@Joe ********
what the hell are you arguing about then? You're initial comment recommends getting an agent to prevent issues with authorities and then you go on to give an example of issues that an agent can do absolutely nothing about. No agent could solve the issues you had so why even mention them as if it applied?
Joe *********
@Wylie ******
Xenophonia and corruption thrive in Thailand. Use an agent for visa issues/applications to avoid potential problems.

A. They speak the language.

B. Authorities are used to agents, typically seeing the same agents weekly.

C. You'll avoid having to pay bribes or hidden fees.

D. Less likely to be declined.

If you're obtaining a visa, it's best to get it from one of the Thai embassies in Laos. Use an agency to apply for, pick up, and stamp in the visa. This will avoid a lot of issues, regardless of visa type.
Wylie *******
@Joe ********
dude, you need to learn some reading comprehension. Not once have I stated that using an agent may make things easier to GET the visa. An agent can even help make things go easier if you are doing a border bounce. I am not disagreeing with either of those points.

What I have said repeatedly is using an agent to get the visa does absolutely nothing to help you when you are standing in front of the IO at the border. Which was the point you were trying to make in your original comment. The officer has no clue whether or not you used an agent to get the visa, nor do they care. The issue you had at the border was because education visas are an automatic red flag, especially when returning on a tourist visa. Seriously, get a clue you clown.šŸ¤”
Joe *********
@Wylie ******
In my experience, that's incorrect. When I entered the country on my current work visa, the agent was with us at the border.

I think you might be the one who requires some reading comprehension, and you have completely backtracked on prior comments. You truly ought to get a clue, (insert insult here).
Wylie *******
@Joe ********
not once did you say the agent accompanied you at the border. That is a completely different story and quite and important part you left out. Interesting that after all this back and forth you finally decide to mention that. If you had then I would have actually agreed with you.

Please also quote my exact words on which comment I have backtracked on. My stance all along has been using an agent to GET the visa does not help you at the border. Now you're changing the story to include the agent accompanying you.
Joe *********
@Wylie ******
That was part of my point all along. Evidently, you lack reading comprehension - rather than myself.

I'm not going to waste my time writing lengthy comments, though.
