How do Thai people gets their tourist approved to visit USA?

So my wife was recently denied tourist visa to the USA. Background, she has a job at a hospital, we own a home together, and we have over 300k in her bank account “that money has been sitting there for over a year”. She also printed out her bank statement for the interview but they never asked to see it. Agent asked, what she want to go to the states for, where is she planing to visit and where is she staying. After that the interview was over and found that she was denied.

Maybe some of you guys who have had experience can share with me in how to get her a tourist visa.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses a Thai woman's recent denial of a US tourist visa despite having a stable job, homeownership, and significant savings. It highlights the challenges many Thai nationals face during the application process and the important factors for approval, such as travel history and intentions to return to Thailand. Community members share personal experiences, advice on improving visa applications, and insights about the often arbitrary nature of visa denials by US immigration officials. The discussion also touches on the perception of bias against applicants from Southeast Asia compared to those from wealthier nations.

American immigration is a joke !

They have allowed open borders for years, but reject those paying the fees and trying to go legal !

It’s shameful and infuriating 🤨

@Robert ***********
'They' was Biden.
Robert ************
@Michael **********
I totally agree about Biden, but the system dealing with people legally trying to enter has been messed up for quite some time !

It's sad Thailand has such a bad reputation, foreign visa agents and many regular people assume the worst and that women wanting a visa to visit the US are in the sex trade. My friend got his girlfriend into Canada by showing regular deposits like she had a job in to her bank account. America sux especially with Trump back in office. I'm from the US and don't want to go back now living in Thailand 18 years.

This happens alot im seeing first interview they deny. For me as an American my benifits in the VA for injuries took 12 years and it took going to court as well SSI 😑 so they do this to Americans as well and its a shame they just auto deny when all requirements are met.

The biggest thing they look for is showing an intent for the tourist to return to their home country after their visa expires or time is up
Cubi ******
Good luck

One thing to try is to visit other countries that may be easier to get a visa. Ie have her passport show a travel history and returns. Better if with you, providing copies of joint travel entry and exit stamps.

With current administration in USA the process will be even more restrictive if that's possible.
Todd *********
Same issues with Australia, they just reject and reject to raise revenue

Won’t even take their own citizens (ex defence) at their word when offering a guarantee that the person will be supported and taken to the airport when stay is over.
Mark ***********
I’m not a Thai resident but live in Indonesia. I’m pretty sure it’s quite similar. I’ve heard similar horror stories in local fb groups here. I’m also happy that we got my wife her tourist visa before the current administration.

When you say 300k is that USD or Thai baht? If Thai Baht that’s not much. If USD then should have been enough

We provided supporting documents regarding my income, savings etc and they did ask to to see them.

Remember they don’t need a reason to say no. They can say they just felt something was off and that is a good enough reason to deny. They also make money on every application approved or not. The embassies are cash machines.

I hope you can work it out. What I would maybe try is to send an email to them asking why. And then maybe try one more time

It sounds like what you provided was info related to her. Next time try providing some of your individual financial info. I had provided current income info as well as some info regarding assets.

She also went to the interview with our son in hand. Maybe that pulled heart strings, who knows.

Could be they were having a bad day after a big fight with their significant other and took it out on you. It literally could be anything.

Good luck if you try again
Ticha *****************
I have read many Thai with good profile, good travel history get denied. Also many no travel history got approved. People say it's determined by DS-160 you have filled and luck.

After reading all the comments, having left the States myself for good reasons, and the current administration in charge, it seems like we are all better off in Thailand. If we go abroad it’ll be Europe, Japan, or somewhere civilized.
Shin *******
To get an American visa, it's a game, they pick and choose who to let in based on your home country. If you're wealthy and or coming from a European country it will go a lot faster. It really is a game, but they will sell the land off to anyone who is willing to pay top dollar! It's not safe there anymore!!
Armando **********
You should have gotten her a marriage visa.

could have but she would need to stay in the states for 6 months or at least until her green card comes. Our plan isn’t for her to immigrate to the states. I just wanted her to meet my friends and family who could attend my wedding in Thailand and also do tourist things like Disneyland, hollywood, etc…
Susan ****
@Jennifer ******************
I never realised how important this was as I have a British passport, so.immigration has never been an issue. I haven't been to USA since 2003.

However when entering Armenia and Georgia in 2024, I had big problems because I look a lot younger than my age.

They couldn't work out if the passport was fake or the photo was fake.

However it was having so many stamps from other countries, especially the EU swung it. They assumed if the EU was okay with my passport and me then it was okay with them!

Getting a new passport this year. Thankfully I travel a lot so it'll full up fast.
Darren *********
It isn't about money in the bank for the US. You need to show why they will leave again.

She is a nurse at the hospital, great. Did she get fired last week and is planning to convert her tourist visa and stay in the US? Show a letter from her boss on hospital stationary saying when she has to be back, etc.

Letters from family or someone that you contract to take care of you home while you are gone with a firm end date.

Everything you provide should show why she is going to leave again. If there is any suspicion that you are going to convert the visa they will deny.
Brian **********
I wouldn’t even attempt to get a USA visa for my Thai wife now. It took almost a year to get her Canadian visa even with government letting every “refugee “ into the country
Ben ***********
Wait three and a half years. Maybe we will get a normal president again. Until then we can only hope we don’t end up like Hungary or Turkiye.
Steve **********
@Ben **********
it's been like this forever. You can't blame everything on Trump. Ps not a trump fan.
Glenn *****
Check YouTube. There are several videos from experts. They do not look at your documents. They only have one or two minutes and it is basically based on intuition and information they already have. Travel history, long term employment, long term income and certainly that she will return. Agents and lawyers are of minimal use.
Brad *******
USCIS typically denies most Asian tourist visas unless from a richer country like Japan and maybe Korea. They automatically assume a possible overstay will occur if they have a spouse or relatives from the US. Meanwhile Europeans typically get approved even from poor eastern to European countries. This usually comes as a shock to most Americans who are accustomed to going anywhere they please
Brandon ************
@Brad ******
the rejection rate is closer to 30%, not "most"
Brad *******
@Brandon ***********
where is your evidence of that?
Brandon ************
@Brad ******
sorry I was wrong. It's 20%.

@Brad ******
Laos and Myanmar are both high, but Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand are all 20-30% and Malaysia is exceptionally low. Every country is on there
Brad *******
@Brandon ***********
I'm saying it's patently false. My wife has never heard of a single person from Vietnam getting a tourist visa. They don't even get fiance and spouse visas, never mind tourist
Brandon ************
@Brad ******
sorry but I'll believe officially posted statistics more than anecdotal hearsay
Brad *******
@Brandon ***********
66% of Thailand is self employed selling things like fruit and street food . That's not going to cut it
Brandon ************
@Brad ******
and they're not apply for tourist visas to the US, so it's irrelevant
Brad *******
@Brandon ***********
you're right that virtually no one from SE Asian society who's not in the top 10% economically is bothering to apply because it's pointless. The govt stat masks the grossly discriminatory nature of who it allows in, namely only the very rich is Asian society. Even then, I'm skeptical.
Brad *******
@Brandon ***********
the requirement just to have a decent bank account alone is enough to rule out the vast majority from SE Asia for a tourist visa.

I had an invitation from Joe Biden to attend a function in the White House with my young man 's name inviting us both. With the current situation in the States, I don’t feel safe to bring my wife back. Getting a VISA doesn’t guarantee they will admit her once she arrives, or they won’t detain her for no good reason without a trial. If they do it to Canadians and Australians they will do it to anyone.
Matthew *********

you enter Australia illegally they put you detention camps. You break the law go to jail. Immigration is not 3 strikes and then deport. Thailand does the same. So why must Americans let foreigner do as they want. Stop believing fake news

What a strange comment. No one here has indicated they'd be entering illegally! They are trying to get an approved visa. THAT is why I decided not to even try to get a US visa for my woman. And just the thought of her being treated poorly by security is simply not an acceptable risk.

One thing I have seen with my husband’s Philippine relatives is the US wants to see plenty of travel to other countries and returns back to home country. His relatives who have been approved on tourist visas all have multiple stamps from other countries showing a history of leaving on time. His relatives who aren’t well traveled haven’t ever been approved.
Jennifer *******************
Maybe a couple of other countries and a letter from work. I know some of his family was denied two or three times before finally getting approved for a visit. Of course, I am hearing the visas have become harder to get recently. He has cousin who was denied last month despite going to visit 2 years ago and leaving on time. It’s a crap shoot, but the more returns from other countries you can show the better.

I cannot help you with the USA visa part. I am am an Australian Migration Agent and i can share some experiences as the US and Au are both pain to get into. In general, when i work with anyone from a perceived "high risk country" i prepare a very detailed submission with regards to incentives to return; address things that the Au government deems as genuine temporary entrant criterion (from local assets, family ties, long term employment and so forth). I am going to assume that this is similar to what the US want to see. You need to very much emphasize that you are going to visit, but you both reside permanently in Thailand and intend to do so in the long run. Best of luck

Jim Ramsey Who cares how many illegal immigrants they have. You think SE Asians are sneaking in by plane? I’m just stating the facts. I totally agreed with you. In this case spouse of American he should have the right to takes his wife to his country. With our real experienced of 4 times US visa denied of student visa F1 for 1 year visa for my daughter 17 years old. We paid a lot for private school in Florida, got the host family, run visa and everything by agency company... US embassy won't explain specific reasons why we got denied but told us to try to apply for interview again ( there are a fee for every interview) so we can pay more fee and get denied again and again...finally 4 times denied we gave up. I never forgot how my lovely daughter cried out from the embassy after interviews. We tried to do everything the best and legally. Our family never done anything illegal. Never has any cases of crime and we had no problem to support her study in US, just a year studying.
