I just took my lady friend with her house book. The immigration officer knows us and knows I have been here for more than required.

you can get the info from any immigration office. I got it from division 1 in Bangkok. Just drop them an email and they will send you the link.

I suppose as long as I get to stay in Thailand indefinitely then an extension of stay is just as good?

so if I get a retirement visa I can come in and out more than once as long as I get the re-entry permit.

I am currently on a tourist extension but I have been to the local immigration office and they have confirmed that I can change it to a non O 90 day as long as I have the money in the bank and an address. They also will give me a one year retirement visa after the 90 days. I was surprised by this but that is what they said.
