What documents are needed to remarry in Thailand after a divorce and change to a marriage visa?

I returned to England last year for personal reasons and my wife at the time asked for a divorce which wasn't unreasonable since it seemed I might not be returning.

I have now returned and want to remarry my ex wife which I thought would be fairly simple but the local ampur is telling me I need to get about ten documents together some of which I have to get from the British consulate in Bangkok, have them translated into Thai and certified! These then have to go to the ministry of foreign affairs in Bangkok for approval?

I have maintained my Thai bank account and have held over 400000 BAHT in it for over 3 months.

I am only on a tourist visa at the moment but want to change this to a marriage visa if I can get over the hurdle of a marriage certificate first!

Any advice?

I still have my yellow house book and id card.

 your choice but i cant be bothered—also over 50 and married—sending me from peter to paul for docs here and overseas—just settled for retirement O visa,but live together as a married couple—some agents even refuse to do marriage visas as its a pain in the rear—ultimately not everyones choice—but that was OURS—good luck💪💪💪

The Amphur gave good advice, this is the procedure and you need to make appointments in advance too. This is something I would definitely consider using an agent in Bangkok to do for you. I did not use an agent but regretted it as I wasted time going backwards and forwards to Bkk and you don't have a lot of time on a tourist visa.

 if he's getting married in his home province he can probably do it in 1 or 2 days. He can get his Embassy letter translated at the Ministry of Foreign affairs, there are agents there as you enter that take your documents and do the translation for about 500 baht.

 I will ask my wife if she still has the agent's contact details that did our translation. They offered the full service, but I declined their offer. My wife is working, but she will reply when she gets a minute.

 The process is laid out here and the Bangkok business can normally be completed with a two night stay

 I think I ended up going back 3 times, but it is possible to do it in 2 I think, or if you are more organised stay for a few days of you can get the appointments aligned.

 Hi Brandon, does he need to get a non o visa too. Can he apply whilst in Thailand or does he have to go to a Thai embassy outside Thailand, in Phils case it would be Vientiane, Loas.

 Hi Ken. I recently got married and went to Udan Thani immigration. I had a retirement visa. They told me I had to leave Thailand and the retirement visa would be cancelled, then visit the embassy in this case Vientiane to obtain new O visa which was then cancelled on reentry and my passport stamped and had until 22 June. I go to get marriage visa next week after I have done all the paperwork and photos etc. However as I am sure you are aware. Each immigration office seems to give differing advice

 You were probably not on aVisa but on an Extension of Stay and changed the reason when you applied for your new extension

 That's because if you had a non-O based on retirement, you cannot change it to a non-O based on marriage. That's the same type of visa so you can't convert it.

But if you're a tourist (tourist visa or visa exempt) you can convert to non-O.

 Most Immigration Offices would allow a new Extension of Stay to be for a changed reason at the time of application if the requirements are met. Marriage and retirement are common flips.
