The answer is yes.

But you might want to consider using a visa agent to facilitate all the necessary steps, including opening a bank account

You don’t actually need to keep ANY money in your Thai bank account if you use a visa agent!

For context, the 800,000 baht required for the visa earns me 5% interest in my Western bank account, which is about 40,000 baht a year.

Since I only paid 13,000 baht to have a visa agent facilitate my retirement extension, I’m actually coming out ahead.

Any visa agent should be able to handle this process for you!

At the end of the day, the DTV is a tourist visa.

As such, you are subject to much closer scrutiny compared to those on a retirement visa.

Just because you personally haven’t been hassled by an immigration officer at the airport doesn't mean others have had the same experience.

If you follow the posts on Reddit or Facebook groups, these issues are mentioned frequently enough to be a genuine concern.

In addition, as I mentioned above, even seasoned visa agents CANNOT open a bank account for you because - again - the DTV is fundamentally a tourist visa!

This has changed recently.

It’s IMPOSSIBLE to get a Thai bank account if you’re a DTV visa holder!
