Not official advice because I don’t know your history, but if you truly are just going to be traveling like u claim, practical advice is to get METV. Stay 8-9 months, do a Tourist visa run and get 2-3 more months. For real travelers, that’s simple and will keep your record straight enough.
I get your point, and admire your principles. But, in a country where any decision is 'up to the discretion of the officer', I'd prefer not make them 'lose face' cuz repercussions might follow you personally. of course, I'd ask 'isn't it free?', but wouldn't go out of my way to get 500bt back. Corruption isn't an easy cure
I’m wondering what happened to your case. A close friend of mine is going through a similar issue, company doesn’t want to cooperate with the necessary documents to cancel visa. Thanks I’m advance.
I've been keeping track of developments surrounding immigration enforcements. They seem to be leaning towards the trend of following more strict countries in Asia. 5-10 years from now, this gray area could be enforced strictly. but well, it's an observation
short-term Visa exempts, visa runs have always been a gray area. You're lucky it's Thailand, in several asian countries, they are more strict about tourist visa runs. Schengen prohibits a short-term traveller to stay longer than 90days in a 180day period or whatever.
If entry refusal begins to an issue like this, you're at your own risk. Good thing in Thailand though, you can find a long-term visa that works for you if you can spend certain amount of money. Many countries don't have loopholes like this
hope you safe trip! i just wish more people highlight the obvious fact that Myanmar is in a deep crisis and the regular people need all the help from all over the world. I think we can start by being transparent about the real situation and not give a false impression that it’s as normal as it has always been. Just my personal opinion as someone who has impacted negatively by the coup.
