As a follow up to my previous post about entering Myanmar: i got my e-visa less than 24h after applying. Immigration on arrival in Yangon was very nice and easy. A bit too much unnecessary paperwork but nothing that is difficult to get. Yangon is as nice as i remember it and it feels just as safe. Thanks for all the helpful answers to my questions on my previous post and have a nice day.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster successfully obtained an e-visa for Myanmar in under 24 hours and found the immigration process in Yangon to be pleasant despite some unnecessary paperwork. They noted that Yangon remains a nice and safe destination, contrasting with comments from others highlighting significant changes in the country post-coup and post-COVID, including rising prices and safety concerns for locals. Overall, while the author had a positive experience, others cautioned against the assumption that the situation in Myanmar is entirely safe or unchanged.

Yangon is relatively safe at the moment though. Certainly compared to many other parts of the country.

i think i made it obvious that this was my personal impression. From what I've seen on the news you're absolutely right

Not to rain on your parade, by all means hope you have a great trip here.

But Yangon is absolutely not the same as pre-coup and pre-covid. I’ve lived there my whole life, left in 2021, and re-entered a week ago. Everything has flipped upside down and the country is moving backwards. The cityscape may look and feel the same but many things have changed that affects daily life for most citizens and residents, like prices going up 2-3 times more than 2 years ago.

Wow. Where are you from if I may ask? If you're not Burmese, it's unusual to hear of a foreigner who's lived in Myanmar their whole life.

You're probably right. Everybody i met talked about the sanctions and how hard it is. But still the people are just incredibly nice. I'm not traveling, my supervisor took me on a business trip and it's just for two days.

hope you safe trip! i just wish more people highlight the obvious fact that Myanmar is in a deep crisis and the regular people need all the help from all over the world. I think we can start by being transparent about the real situation and not give a false impression that it’s as normal as it has always been. Just my personal opinion as someone who has impacted negatively by the coup.

Thanks for providing some insights into the actual situation there and I'm not surprised to read what you're saying.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to go to Myanmar since Covid restrictions closed the borders. I intend to visit again in the relatively near future. Unfortunately, many of the towns and areas I want to visit are now off-limits or restricted to foreigners, which was not the case, pre-Covid.
