DTV approved via HCMC consulate. No questions asked.

Workcation category: provided 1. Fintech bank statement, 2. contractor agreement, 3. letter from client confirming the remote work agreement, 4. client company's business registration.

Both me and my gf(different nationalities) got the visa with those 4 docs each, and no questions or extra bureaucracy like other embassies. We came to HCMC for a visa run + eat some banh mi.

I'm not sharing the visa photo - it looks exactly like the Vientiane sticker with HCMC instead. Visa valid til 2029 beyond passport validity. Questions are welcome but if I don't answer you, that means it's already answered in other posts. Just search in-group with keywords.

Digital nomads, rejoice. Pick the easier embassy if your closest one is being difficult.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user shared their experience obtaining a DTV visa at the Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) consulate with minimal bureaucracy, submitting 1) a fintech bank statement, 2) a contractor agreement, 3) a letter from a client confirming their remote work, and 4) their client's business registration. Both the user and their girlfriend received their visas without complications. They invited questions about the process, indicating that it was smoother than experiences at other embassies, and highlighted that proof of a minimum balance of 500,000 THB was not needed for the entire six months. The discussion covered various inquiries related to documentation and experiences from others seeking a similar visa.

Hello, congratulations and thank you for sharing 👏 just one question, they state on the website the following : 2.4. Financial statement in the past 6 months showing minimum fund of 500,000.- THB

So does it mean you need to show the 500k on that said account, but for the last 6 months with this amount ? Thank you for your help 😊🙏

please see my reply to James Miller above. This webpage wasn’t published when I applied so emailing the consulate is the best. YMMV.

Didnt ask for any proof of residence in your home country right?
Aneesa *********
How much did you pay in total for the visa/process please? $350 or $700?

@Aneesa ********

3. letter from client confirming the remote work agreement > If you are your own "boss" (freelancer) do you do the agreement yourself ?

@Alexa **********
1. The letter isn’t a requirement.

2. I’m also on a self-employed “own boss” contract.

3. Point of the letter is “Look, my client/contract is real and you can ask my client about my remote work if you don’t believe me”

You can use this info as you please. And this only applies to HCMC.

@Felix ******
How did you go about writing a self-employed “own boss” contract? This is my situation too.

@Kimberly *******
I believe someone pays you for your services so you can write a draft letter yourself for that client to sign.

If you can’t find one person to be that person, you can probably write a self declaration. But hey, you should be asking this to the embassy you’re gonna apply.

@Felix ******
Well if the embassy would ever respond to the last email I sent, I wouldn’t be on here trying to find decent advice from people lol. Thanks for the input!

understood, it’s a leap of faith to go visit an embassy in a foreign country without clear details. Point is to provide evidence that you are eligible via 1) legit income source 2) authorized remote work.

If you have more proof than they ask, I see no reason they will deny your application.

How many months bank statements?
James ********
Did you submit 6 months bank account statements showing proof of the 500,000 Thai baht balance or equivalent foreign currency? ( I believe HCMC was asking for 6 months of bank account statements.)

@James *******
YMMV, but we did not have 500k consecutively for 6 months. But we printed 6 months to make sure we don’t need to reprint.

No mention of “6 months” in the reply email from consulate prior application.

The staff only looked at current balance.

I’d say the staff in this consulate followed MFA’s direction precisely. Not even a single question.

pardon me...I was thinking of the 6 months bank statement REQUIRED by Hanoi Thai Embassy...

"Hi everyone,

I just got my DTV visa from the Thai embassy in Hanoi and wanted to share my experience as a freelancer. Here are the key points:

1. They asked for invoices and a government paper proving I'm a freelancer, notarized by a notary.

2. A bank statement showing 500,000 THB wasn't enough; they needed statements from the last six months.

3. The visa fee is $340, cash only in dollars.

4. I had to provide a portfolio since I don't have contracts with companies.

5. Required documents included: six months of bank statements, visa application, passport photo, client invoices, a certificate proving I'm Spanish, passport photocopy, and my portfolio.

6. They also needed a hotel booking or leasing contract for my stay in Thailand, plus a hotel reservation in Hanoi.

7. The staff was unhelpful and had a bad attitude. You must make an appointment online to submit your documents.

I applied on Friday and got the visa today, thanks to an urgent situation with my girlfriend that required us to fly earlier, otherwise they said it takes up to a week. I hope this helps anyone planning to apply!"

It's good you went to HCMC vs Hanoi.

@Felix ******
So you could put

0 in your account 3 days before applying and that would be accepted? How about the exchange rate used for foreign currencies?
James ********
@Paul ******
likely will want to see a Monthly bank account statement
Thuu **********
Congrats. Do they ask you to show your mobile banking or just statement?
Wannikea *********
@Thuu *********
they said they showed a fintech statement. Fintech would be a company like WISE that does global currency transfers, obviously they hold a balance in their fintech account.

Do you know if i have no contractor agreement or any document from client only with a pdf paper copy for my works (web development) would it be fine?
Wannikea *********
@Blue ***
you wanna risk 10,000 baht application fee without having genuine client contracts? I'd certainly try and ask the embassy first if a web development portfolio alone will cut it. At the very least show that your/you company is incorporated.
Blue ****
@Wannikea ********
Yes I guess I am going to grab those contracts and print them out as well. I was just being lazy and trying to do lessđŸ€„

ask the place you’re going to apply. You should be not lazy to provide them MORE proof than what they ask for because after all, the staff wants to go through the checklist for each candidate and get on with their life.

If you provide them enough proof, they’ll appreciate your efforts and also more likely to approve you.

Don’t forget, once you get this, you don’t need to do a single visa applucation for 5 years straight.
Blue ****
@Felix ******
Yes true. 🙏🙏
Ellie *******
@Blue ***
, are you asking about the same category of DTV as OP's?
John **********
@Blue ***
not sure what you mean by paper copy for your works? Do you have a tax return you can show to prove your income?
Blue ****
@John *********
I mean I am planing to do some screenshot and print it out.

I’m just a freelancer. I do not have any tax return and have no idea what that is. I have only bank statements to show there are income to my business. đŸ€”
John **********
@Blue ***
so you work but you don't pay any tax? I'm guessing you don't have a registered company either in that case?
Blue ****
@John *********
I do need to pay tax of course. It is just i am not english based. Did not know this “word” well. I think I will give anything I have just in case. Thanks.
John **********
@Blue ***
no problem. A tax return is the form you file with your government showing the tax that you pay. If you have a copy of that along with a registerd company that you can show the lack of contracts might not be so important but they would obviously help
Tod *********
Congrats, great to hear that,

Just curious how was the processing time?

HCMC is famous for stretching out the approval time on visas past what they have posted.
