I do wish that the Thai Immigration Authorities would undertstand that there are a hell of a lot of us who want to spend 4 or 5 months as tourists in Thailand and allow us to get a visa for that instead of all the

 yep. Therein lies the problem. It depends SO much on the IO you get as you enter the country. I got a very officious lady 3 weeks ago.
