Yup. Get a Thai bank account with a banking ap and then you can use the PromptPay QR codes to pay or accept payments. Very heavily used here by all types of businesses.
I think Bangkok Bank is your best bet. Try several branches before giving up. I got an account there easily a couple years ago. Jomtien branch. They set up the online banking ap on my phone (essential) and issued a debit card on the spot.

Please note this last sentence. Unvaccinated travelers with no negative test within 72 hours are essentially at the mercy of the whims of the individual Health Control Officer who can make you do whatever he or she deems appropriate at the moment, and any and all associated expenses must be paid by you. Not a small thing.
Yes - I strongly recommend you load up the Social Security ap. Pretty much everything you would want to know about the status of your account is there, including details on your medicare choices and costs. Indispensable.
I didn’t register the letter - I just kept a close eye on my SS ap for the next few weeks to make sure my change was implemented. Pretty easy.
Absolutely not true at Cambodian land borders. They have an official ATK testing setup and they can and will require you to purchase a 150baht test to gain entry into Thailand.
