UPDATE to my post about Bangkok Bank locking account AGAIN:
When the branch in Jomtien called the Hua Hin branch (where I opened the account) they told them that I needed to bring in a new lease agreement.
So, I had just signed one for 12 months a couple days prior in Jomtien.
When I arrived at the Hua Hin Branch I was now informed, “yes, we need this, but it is not enough! We also need the property owners ID card,” which I didn’t have, because I wasn’t told!
This is the consistent type of incompetence I have personally dealt with from BKK Bank. Why they can’t seem to provide an entire list of the documents needed at one time, is beyond any reasonable question!
I have had enough with this bank so I closed my account and will replace it with a second account to my existing K Bank account! I have learned, the way banks operate here it’s best to have more than one account with enough money to survive for 3 to 4 weeks in each.
What banks OTHER than BKK Bank and K Bank do you recommend?
And have any of you with a K Bank account had your account locked with or without notice as many of us have had happen to to use with BKK Bank?
The point is, if you’re in the planning stages of living in Thailand, skip setting your account with BKK Bank. You WILL regret it!
Yes there are some who have been with BKK bank for many years and never had an issue. I’m happy for you. But those of us who have joined in the last few years are under way more scrutiny than others who have a longer history with the bank.
But to arbitrarily lock a person’s account, blocking their access to their own money , WITHOUT so much of a call or email to say, “hey, we need this document, please bring it to a branch near you by blank date,” is beyond comprehension, and horrific business practice.
Hi, in relation to opening a bank account with a Non O visa, is a TM30 sufficient or do you actually require a certificate of residence from immigration for the bank?
Just a FYI regarding banks… After three attempts at two different branches of Krungsri and getting denied each time I was able to easily open an account at Kasikorn. I have a non O visa and what I thought was ALL required documents but Krungsri seemed to insist that I need proof of paying electricity and water bills even though I’ve be renting the same room for 15 months with utilities included. 🤷
Successfully opened another Bangkok Bank account in Sattahip today, had all my documents for Rental agreement, passport with 12 month extension stamp on my Non-O visa. Phone number verified.
Half hour later tried at Krungsri branch in the Big C Super Store complex at Sattahip.
Was told that I would need to wait till I renewed my Visa, for the record my 12mth extension was on 9th Jan 26, so it goes through till Jan 27, not sure what the Bank Staffer was thinking, called her out on her claim and then the story changed to it was not possible with Krungsri Bank and I should try other banks.
So there you have it, make of that what you will, my thoughts are that the staffer didn’t want or know how to deal with a Foreigner opening a Bank account or Krungsri are not wanting Foreign account holders on their books.
At the maturity of a term deposit, today I visited Krungsri Bank for the first time since switching from Non-B to DTV. I handed over my passport with DTV printout. No questions asked. In addition, they noticed that my debit card has expired long ago (I actually never used it) and they issued me a new card.
The bank didn’t make me feel like a ‘tourist’ the way some members here keep emphasising on.
Still trying to obtain bank account. Was able to open account with GSB (Government Savings Bank) but found out today that there will be a problem transferring from USA bank with Wise app. They also told me when I opened the account that I couldn’t access their mobile banking app to check deposits, balances, etc because I wasn’t a Thai citizen but I could check at ATM. I asked about mobile banking website and they said yes. Today they said website was no longer supported. Went to Krungsri bank and they couldn’t get their scanner to read chip in my 2 month old passport. They also said I couldn’t use their mobile app or their banking website because they aren’t available to anyone over 70 (seriously??). They didn’t even answer my questions about Wise transfers and annual reporting. Going to try different branch of Kasikorn with my immigration residence certificate in hand and my wife not after being rejected because she wasn’t able to exactly sign documents the same due to dementia. Does any of this crap get easier??
Has anyone had issues transferring Thai Banking apps to a new phone. 3 days in 2 banks Bangkok and Krungsri one sorted Bangkok albeit for some reason i can’t log into my account. It’s saying wrong user name and password. Krungsri no luck, face recognition wouldn’t work, manager said head office will call me in 3 days, still waiting for the call.
My U.K. bank app sorted in minutes with online security checks being carried out up and running now.
