That equates to almost $90-$100 a month depending on how your money is deployed. And with the new 60+30 exemption, seems like a no brainer to me, especially if you go home once a year or spend time traveling to surrounding countries.

Do you have to have a bank account in Thailand? Or can you send it somewhere and pick it up?

I asked the MyThaiVisa how much it was? Did you find out yet who you are using? They don't make it very easy, buts lots of people on here seem to have done it. The only bad thing I've heard about agents, is people claiming that you are stuck with them everytime you renew. Then if you do get the retirement visa, now the new tax issues come in to play. It does frustrating. And having to leave $20+K (basically losing $83/mo in interest back home) sitting in an account collecting dust. Wondering if it isn't better to get a visa + extension a few times a year and not have to jump through all the hoops. Post a follow up or message me what you end up doing. Good luck.

is there any way to retire in Thailand without signing a long term lease? I like traveling from city to city and don’t really want to be in one place.

the money isn’t insured like banks in the US are? People are just out $20k with no recourse at all?
