Changing extension procedures is not the same as retroactively cancelling visas. Thailand may regulate future extensions, but lawful DTV stays are not voided without express legal instruments and transitional measures.

Read my post on this page and understand your visa mate. Im based in Chiang Mai and the IOs at the airport here are great. No issues with over a dozen trips in and out last year including a 6 hour beer run to Singapore. You're good to go

People can laugh, but that shows a lack of knowledge of Thai law and how it is used

Someone was granted an extension recently without a Thai bank account in southern Thailand. The report of the bank account issue came from someone in Chiang Mai I believe.

Under Thai law, visa categories and their conditions are created and amended through Cabinet policy and subordinate legislation issued under the Immigration Act B.E. 2522 (1979), including Ministerial Regulations and Immigration Bureau Orders.

The Thai authorities therefore possess the legal power to amend or discontinue a visa category such as the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) on a prospective basis. However, as a matter of administrative law and long standing practice, amendments to visa schemes are not applied retroactively so as to invalidate an already-granted permission of stay without notice or transitional arrangements.

Historically, where Thailand has altered visa programs or imposed new conditions (for example, retirement visas, elite visas, and COVID-era entry permissions), such changes have applied to new applicants or to future extensions, while existing visa holders were permitted to complete their current period of authorized stay or were granted transitional or “grandfathering” provisions.

Although an individual visa may be revoked in cases of fraud, misrepresentation, or violation of conditions, the blanket cancellation of an entire visa class for holders already lawfully admitted would require an express legal instrument and would ordinarily be accompanied by formal notice and transitional measures.

Accordingly, while the Thai government retains the legal authority to modify or terminate the DTV scheme in the future, there is no basis to assume that an existing DTV holder would be rendered unlawful solely by a policy change absent express retroactive effect and implementing regulations.

I didn't have flights booked, and ended up leaving Aus a month later than my intended date on application. It's not an issue

You don't need to "re-enroll" in a course to satisfy anything for your visa. You can just do a Thai language course if you like, it has no impact on your long term 5 year visa status
