For entry into the country if you are asked, it has to be cash.

Apply in Indonesia. Bit less crowded.

For Indonesian consulates you need:

- proof of travel (in and out of thailand)

- proof of accomodation (at least 1 week booked)

- copy of bank statement with proof of funds (at least 700 usd or equivalent)

With Penang for accomodation proof you need the entire stay.
