First I would like to thank everyone in this group for sharing valuable information. I just want to say that Mae Sai border is open again, I got 45 days. There is an option to stay 14 days in Myanmar in the area of Tachileik. Have a good day everyone.

ATTENTION ALL MEMBERS (especially you people up in the North West)

## Mae Sai - Tachileik Border w/Burma

I wanted to post this because I was declining too many posts from people asking about Mae Sai. :O So if you tried to make a post asking about it and got denied apologies. ;)

Just so we're 100% clear on this; even though they announced the Mae Sai / Tachileik border crossing with Burma is open, in reality, (for all practical purposes) it is NOT open for foreigners to bounce in and out at :O

By that I mean, it's not open like it was pre covid (Mar 2020). You cannot just show up pay for the day pass, bounce out-n-back with Burma and stamp back into Thailand.

You have to BUY a visa for Burma before you show up at that border. You also need a negative covid test & proof you were vaccinated. So that means before you decide to bounce there, you get a real visa to get in, either at a Burma consulate here or via the Burma eVisa website.

That makes bouncing out-n-back at that border not that attractive for the "budget conscious" travelers :P

The ONLY border with thailand and burma that is open like it was before is the Mae Sot / Myawaddy border in Tak province.

You can bounce out and back there for 500 baht. no visa or anything required to get stamped in and out of burma.

For all other border bouncing you people up in the Northwest need to do it in Chiang Rai province with Lao.

Use either Chiang Saen (where you cross in-n-out of Lao by boat) or Chiang Khong / Huay Xai (where the friendship bridge is).

I need to leave Thailand to cancel my ED visa, and then re-enter on an exemption stamp and apply for a new passport (it's full).

I was thinking of riding my motorcycle from Chiang Mai to Mae Sai/Tachileik to accomplish this as I'm sick of planes. I have heard of the border guards holding passports and of course limitation to Tachileik town.

If I cross at this border station will I get my official stamp out and then new Thai 30 exemption stamp in?

Thanks,

Dan

Hi Members!

I just want to share my experience... Today I did visa run to Myanmar (Mae Sai - Tachileik) because my Non-B vise expired and on the way out, Thai Immigration Officer asked me about my contract with school. He wanted to see this document. Fortunately I had it with me. I don't understand it - my visa and work permit is valid as long as my contract!

Anyway it is better to have more than less documents ;)

Re: Tachileik

If crossing over to Tachileik to do a border run and paying the 500B for entry, is it possible to stay there overnight and return to Mae Sai the following day?

And, if so, is one allowed out of TL to explore a little? (ill have my bicycle with me)

Thanks

Looking to do a visa run from Chiang Mai to Mae Sai/Tachileik before my current visa expires (2 Aug.).

Some background info:

- Arrived to Thailand Sep 2017 w/ 6 month ME TR visa.

- After that expired i did visa run to Mae Sai and recieved 30 days which i extended at immigration for another 30 days.

- After that i did visa run to KL Malaysia and got 60 day SE TR visa which i also extended 30 days (expires 2 Aug.)

If i recieve 30 days upon reentry i am planning to return to Australia after that expires, where i will apply for 60 day SE TR visa, because i dont have enough money in the bank to meet requirements of the 6 mth ME TR visa.

Will there be any complications? Or does anybody have any advice?

Thx in advance šŸ˜ƒ

I am planning to do a "border run" to Tachileik in Myanmar this weekend. I have five back-to-back SETVs, all extended in Chiang Mai where I have been continually (visa runs excepted) since March 2016. Am I likely to have any issues? I know the drill, $10 for the visit pass for Myanmar, I did it many times but years ago. My last visa-exempt entry was back in 2015, when I have a couple from Malaysia, none since then. I would hope, if this works, to then stay 60 days (30+30) and then go to Japan for a month or so. Are they likely to want to see money/accommodation/flights?
