What is the best way to extend my stay in Thailand after applying for a student visa?

Hi guys, im in a bit of a predicament i have been in thailand for 18 months with a few tourist visas from laos, one land border crossing in cambodia and one flight into malaysia and back into thailand on a 30 day entry stamp. I have applied for a student visa but i have to leave the country by the 16th of december as the documents will not be ready. Would it be safer to do a land crossing into malaysia then back into thailand due to all the issues people are having at the airport immigrations? Tia

TLDR : Answer Summary
The poster is seeking advice on the safest way to leave Thailand and re-enter to extend their stay, as they need to leave by December 16 due to pending student visa documents. They are considering a land border crossing into Malaysia but are concerned about the immigration process. The community advises on options for crossing into Myanmar instead, highlighting a border with fewer complications. They mention the need for cash for entry and discuss the challenges faced by different nationalities at various borders.

AND I need to apologize for my mistake, South Africans and Russians cannot bounce out and back in at Phu Nam Rom anymore..

I am sincerely sorry for the mis-information.

That means from Bangkok you either fly out and back in OR you bounce at one of the borders with Cambodia (avoid Poi Pet, use Baan Laem/Duang instead)

I know you're new to the group but believe me we have people from ALL over the country who keep the group updated on what can and can't be done and where. Plus the moderating team goes out of the way to delete posts with b/s information.

I am from south africa, and i only have 3.5 pages left in my passport i have ordered a new one but it should only arrive early next year. So i need to go to a country where i do not need a visa to save pages for the student visa.

@Tod ********
Yep, that's the term I was thinking about. Is it actually called a day pass, or is that what we're just calling it?

@Benjamin *****
you're actually buying a 'day pass' much like you do at Mae Sai, Mae Sot etc. All it does is get you stamped in and out of burma and you leave to go back to thailand.

I suppose a visa is required to enter Myanmar. However, you are NOT getting a visa if you follow my instruction, you are simply getting some type of permission to enter into a small area of Myanmar basically.

Look at this link and see that they go to that border every day

@Sheldon ***************
you are totally incorrect and visa run companies lug people to the Phu Nam Ron border crossing with Myanmar EVERY DAY for visa exempt entries.

I'm telling you that you DON'T need any visa to burma because you're only paying to get lugged across the no mans land between countries get stamped in and out of burma and lugged right back to the thai side to get stamped in.

i have searched online and all information says an E visa needs to be obtained beforehand.

@Sheldon ***************
They won't even let you stamp OUT of thailand at that border if you can't stamp back in

That's because you don't have a visa to get IN to myanmar and if you're denied entry to thailand you couldn't do anything but stay at that border town

Yeah i understand. Thank you benjamin

As an American on a Non-O ME based on marriage, in my experience, no. The border is very relaxed, and are nice to western farangs. However, your milage may vary of course.

Thank you so much guys, much appreciated. Just one more question is there any history of people being denied entry coming back into thailand at that border?

You'll do it yourself/ agency. First, from Bangkok at the Southern Bus Terminal (Sai Tai Mai), take the bus 81 to Kanchanburi, it'll be 100THB. From Kanchanburi, tell someone you want to go to Phu Nam Ron border, and they'll lead you to a bus that's written in English/Thai/Burmese. It'll be 60THB.

From there, they'll take you to the Phu Nam Ron border. You'll approach the border agent, and ask to do a border hop. He'll stamp you out, and have you wait at an open-air waiting area where there'll be an agent. The agent will take 900THB, your passport, and when there's enough people, you'll cross the border of Thailand and go on a bus.

He'll take you across the border, where you'll get out, look around, shop at the duty free shop, while the agent does stuff in a building. Once he comes back, you'll get back on the bus, and go back to the border.

Ok thank you for this info, what is thee best way to do this, through an agency or myself?
Tod *********
You Do NOT get a visa to get into Myanmar at the Phu Nam Ron border crossing. you pay 900 baht and get a day pass. All they do is stamp you in and out of Myanmar at that border.
Tod *********
Seeing as you haven't done TWO 30 day visa exempt entries by land this year the closest and easiest thing for you to do is bounce out and in at the Phu Nam Ron border crossing with Myanmar in Kanchanaburi province. That would get you a new 30 day visa exempt entry and you could extend that by 30 more days if you needed to at the immigration office for 1900baht..

Only one visa exempt by land and one by flying
Tod *********
So do you have TWO 30 day visa exempt entries BY LAND to thailand this year?

The Malaysian borders aren’t known for being easy borders.

Best land borders are the ones bordering Myanmar and Laos

Malaysian borders are also asking for he 20.000 Thb or equivalent currency in cash. You avoid isues to get a correct visa for your stay.
