I’m going to HCMC to apply for a tourist visa. I will have all the proof that they need. But for my proof of funds, I’m not sure if they except cash, an update copy of my bank book, or if I have to go into the bank and ask for a specific copy?

TIA

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for a Thai tourist visa at a consulate, you typically need to provide proof of funds in the form of a bank statement that displays your name and account balance, rather than cash. It's important to ensure that this is a bank statement rather than just an update on your bank book. Depending on the country, some might require certified bank statements covering several months. When entering Thailand, however, you may be asked for proof of funds in cash.

There are two times you're likely to be asked for proof of funds.

ONE is when you are applying for a visa at a thai consulate in and that case you show money in a bank account, you CANNOT show cash

The other time is when you are stamping IN to the country and in that case you show cash you CANNOT show banked money.

We haven’t been asked to show 20k but we have it on us just in case. It can be in baht or equivalent ie from your country.

For a Thai tourist visa in some countries (ie Sri Lanka) you need 6 months original bank statements certified by the bank themselves 🤐

which while anecdotally interesting has nothing to do with thailand

yep different countries have different requirements.. pays to research before booking flights over

For visa applications its usually a bank statement with your name on it and the equivalent 20k.

For entry into the country if you are asked, it has to be cash.
