And maybe something better is in the making. After all, the Thai cabinet agreed to create more long-term visa starting in the new year, attracting e.g. remote workers.
Fair enough. Yes, one cannot rely solely on COVID extensions being extended. TIT. Always have a plan B. But the question was about the likelyhood of it being extended. And based on why it existed in the first place, it is likely to be extended quite a while longer, IMHO.
Simply not true. Even the respecitive form for the COVID extensions suggests, that NOT WANTING to travel / leave during COVID times is reason enough for applying for it. Checking "the COVID situation is ongoing" is good enough ... and this will apply many months more. And as I said, it was at all times possible to leave Thailand. If only I had a penny for all the times some old expert suggested COVID extensions would end soon. It is about money. And it is about keeping foreign spenders in the country. Period.
There has always been flights. People could always return to their country of origin. This extension was never about that. COVID extensions exist, because Thailand relies on tourism. And as long as there is not "enough" inflow of "fresh" tourists, and as long as border runs are not possible again, the COVID extensions will be around.
Not possible, yet. However, there is talk (as in the cabinet agreed in general) to introduce such a digital nomad visa next year - which would allow for a longer term stay and for generating income from foreign sources. However, some things in Thailand will be just that: talk. Let’s see what happens in January.
Yes. Booking did not work (not only because sino, but also because if vaccinated abroad, the system will not / can not find ones record). This is exactly why we went to ASIATIQUE as they allow for walk-ins without pre-booking.
