I’m currently residing in Thailand with a DTV visa, and I have all the required documents in place, including proof of residence and a Thai bank account. I’m interested purchasing a car through leasing and would love to hear from anyone who has experience with the process.

Could anyone provide information on:

Which companies offer car leasing options for foreigners with a DTV visa?

What documents or requirements should I be prepared for?

Are there any tips or things to watch out for when leasing a car in Thailand?

What are the typical rates for leasing? Do the rates for foreigners with DTV visas differ, or are they the same as for Thai residents? Does it vary from bank to bank?

Has anyone heard of Alamo car rental coming to Bangkok International Airport? Alamo's website let's me do books for BKK starting from 15th July. Alamo doesn't show as an option on any of the car rental search engines. I haven't been able to find an email address to ask Alamo.

Driving license advice please- we have US and Spanish driving license and live in Hong Kong. We have no way of applying for legitimate International driving permits in our home countries online before moving to Thailand in July.

Is it possible to rent a car on arrival without an IDP-if not, anyone know of a solution?

I plan on getting a retirement visa next year and living 5 months out of the year in Thailand and seven months in the U.S. with my Thai girlfriend. What have other people done as far as owning a car in Thailand that will only be used for 5 months? Is renting a car for 5 months an affordable option? We do have someone that can drive the car occasionally so it won’t be sitting the entire 7 months without being used if I decide to buy. We will divide our time between Bangkok and Hua Hin.
