From experience, joint accounts are a world of pain. They can’t be accepted as usable in many cases. Getting things like internet or app access (different) requires not 2x the forms but 3x the forms. And even then it’s not valid as proof of funds for either of you. Common sense doesn’t help here, just don’t use a joint account for anything auditable.

You need personal accounts for personal evidence of funds.

I thought a joint account would help us smooth the corners and show shared trust etc, but instead it extended every bank appointment by an extra hour as they tried to deal with the concept.

For a joint account you generally need to show double the funds in it as only half the money belongs to each account holder. Other than that it depends on how you apply whether you each need to show 500k baht or not. If you will both work remotely from Thailand then you both need to apply individually for a DTV based on Workation and both show the required funds. If only one of you will work the initial applicant needs to show the 500k baht in an account in their name then once approved the other can apply as their dependant, you might be able to sponsor them using the same account but depending on the consulate they still might want 2×500k. If you apply using soft power the situation is similar but they may also want to see how you can support yourself during your time in Thailand on top of that 500k

it depends on the embassy if they want to see the funds in one account each or will accept a joint account

this are the requirements for the sponsorship

one applicant can show the required funds, and as soon as the DTV has been issued, the married partner can get a DTV under sponsorship
