Looking at coming to Thailand on a Non O retirement visa. I know when I arrive I need to get 800K into a Thai bank account. What about pre-arrival to Thailand? Do I need to have held the US equivalent of the 800K in a US bank account? If so, for how long?
Answer summary
To obtain a Non O retirement visa for Thailand, you must have 800,000 THB in a Thai bank account upon arrival. However, to apply for this visa before your arrival, you need to provide proof of either three months' worth of income (equivalent to 65,000 THB/month) or demonstrate that you have the 800,000 THB available. The funds do not necessarily need to be held in a US bank account for any specific period; only the most recent bank statement showing the necessary amount is required. Some embassies may have additional requirements, so it's advisable to check directly with your embassy.

The 800k can be in any bank account in your name for your initial Non-O, no seasoning required (unless your Thai Embassy is rogue and requires this)

In order to apply for the Non-O visa in your home country before travelling to Thailand you need to show either 3 months worth of income of the equivalent of 65k baht each month or have the equivalent of 800k baht or more in your account. Whichever route you need to provide 3 months bank statements but the 800k only has to be in the most recent one

It is not important where the money comes from so long it is not illegal, although for getting the non-o you need 3 a 6 months Recent bank statements showing sufficient funds (typically at least $1,000 USD for individuals ), better ask your embassy the required details because it is everywhere other financial requirements (Thai law ask only for
*****
BTH or equal for 3 months, but embassies ask a lot times more)

Ronny Liekens Non-O retirement - 800,000 Baht, NOT $1,000 USD.

Your 20,000 Baht is the tourist/'visa-exempt cash requirement for entry. And that's roughly $600 USD.

Initial 90 day O visa doesn't require 800k.

An OA visa does, but a 90 day O does not.

Graham Seal incorrect. A yearly extension of a 90 day O visa requires 800k in the bank.

The initial O visa doesnt require 800k.

When you get your E-Visa.... no. Only the 800kb or equivalent during 3 months prior submission of your E-Visa.

Wolf Gang I'm not sure exactly what you're saying, but,

From the e-visa site under Non-O (retirement)

"Financial evidence showing monthly income of at least 65,000 THB or equivalent, or having the current balance of at least 800,000 THB or equivalent (e.g., bank statements from any banks for the last three months, or proof of earnings)"

No,

90 day doesn't require seasoning only the extension

You have to show the financial requirements as on the Thai embassy website when you apply for your initial 90 Non o retirement visa.

John Mozley 90 day O visa does not require 800k in bank.

Only an OA, or an in country extension requires 800k in bank

There isn't usually any requirement to have funds outside of thailand , just the 800k in an account in Thailand for an extension of stay.
