What happens to all the alleged speeding traffic cam tickets if I rented car. Had three different vehicles and only really think I might have a few tickets from driving back down to Bangkok I saw a few flashes. I thought I slowed down to 90 on the last one but it still flashed. I didn’t get any the first time but I was driving more conservatitely. This time I drove like a rich Thai person when it was safe enough during the day.
Answer summary
When renting a car in Thailand, any speeding tickets caught by traffic cameras will typically be sent to the rental car company, which will then charge the credit card used for the rental. While some users report not receiving fines or notices, others mention that outstanding tickets can appear when renewing vehicle registrations or may lead to extra charges from the rental company. It's advisable to drive within speed limits to avoid fines and ensure safety.

If you hired from a big multinational hire company they will have your credit card details on record.

You only get charged for one offence per day so if they occurred on the same day only one fine. For peace of mind just pay up amigo. Right thing to do. 👍🏻🌞😎⚓

I got this from AVIS when I returned home after driving a rental car from AVIS. Took about 2 months to arrive after I was flashed.

I remember seeing a flash when I was in Sara Buri. Checked my credit card statement and they took 800 baht ! Small fine really. No issues renting again or with licence !

I was 20km or so over. They also sent photo evidence of the car attached to the email.

Sadly some provincial Thai roads dont have speeds indicated or arbitrary ones and you have to guess !

OP
BreathtakingGuava6668 wow, do you know where this was taken? Or what you did? I was driving quite a bit and I hope I don’t get 20-30 emails… but I used Hertz, Budget and Drive. I didn’t get any physical tickets. Ironically the only one I saw flash I was going the 80km or under. Because the speedometers on all the cars are over rated. Like 5-10 km. At least according to my GPS.

Just after covid whilst Thailand was pretty much locked down still, Mrs L and I took the opportunity to travel back and forth between Korat and Patraya. I managed to catch 15 speeding tickets all from the same camera. I could have run away and not paid as it was a hire car but that would have left the owner with the headache right on top of his business already suffering due to covid so I did the right thing.

Those flashes are not speed cameras. I regularly drive from Korat to Surat Thani. Many times flashed. Never a ticket. My ex wife only ever got one ticket for 138 kmh in a 90 kmh zone near Buriram on Hwy 24

OP
Brett Wilkins weird, what was it? I was coming from north east on 2 and 6 I believe the flash was on the stretch of 2 that is really long highway with nothing. The first few times I drove slow then noticed everyone driving way faster so I started driving faster the last trip. but I saw the sign speed camera ahead and 500 meters or however far they were i saw all the cameras above each lane and then it flashed the guy ahead of me and then I think it flashed when I went through. What’s the flash then?
Gregory *********
Gregory *********
They flash and take photos all the time. It doesn't mean you are fined. They have a large tolerance before issuing a ticket. You wont get one for 5kms over. Or even 10kms over. All the ones i have seen are at least 25 over and 500 baht each. 25 over or 45 over it is still 500 baht. That being said drive around the speed limit and you will never get fined, but more importantly you will keep yourself and others safe. Thailand has too many road users doing unpredictable things like kids on motorbikes going the wrong way etc. Give yourself time to avoid the unexpected and enjoy the drive. Never be in a hurry. Take it easy. Stay alive

Rental car company takes it off your credit card. ... I got stopped at a police checkpoint, 200 baht fine for something at the back. I said I'm a mechanic show me whats wrong so I can fix .. they couldn't show me still had to pay the 200 on the spot 😆.

They will send notifications to the rental company, they will charge you a look up fee plus the ticket for every ticket, on the CC you used to rent it

Just wait for the extra bill/charge to your credit card from the car rental company. Might even be a surcharge for the extra paperwork.

Rodger Williams I’m out of the country now. That’s why I asked the question. I didn’t really think about it until I finally saw one of the cameras flash. I don’t run red lights or anything. Just simple speeding. I just want to be prepared. It wasn’t that often maybe 3-5. If they don’t flash 10-25. Because I was usually going 120-140kph. In and out of Udon Thani. Allegedly

That’s actually part of the driving license training in Thailand 😀 : they try to teach you that just because the light has changed doesn’t mean you rush forward, there may still be someone or pedestrian trying to beat the light from the other side.
