so you apply showing 500k you arrive and stay 180 days, decide to extend, requirements are to prove you have 500k. Now that continues for 5 years. So how can you not need 500k available for the duration of the visa!

You seem to be taking issue at what I'm saying. Think it through its basic logic, don't fill people with false hopes, they need to totally be aware, you can't live on nothing and you need to prove it, the process is for a reason, not for people to bend it to fit. But, you could stay in Thailand for the 5 years couldn't you. Have you not been keeping upto speed, leave for a day, extend, time it right and get 5.5 years.
