TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion clarified that insurance is not a mandatory requirement for a Non-O visa, especially for the initial 90-day stay. While insurance is recommended for general safety and is essential for the Non-OA visa, it is not required upon applying for the Non-O 90-day visa. Expatriates shared various insurance options and suggested having travel insurance that covers the duration of stay, especially for future extensions. Companies such as Gowalkabout and WR Life were mentioned as potential insurers.

you don't need health insurance for the non O visa 90 day or the 12 month extension. You would be wise to have it though and I am with WR Life. Check it out here.
No you will not, it is not mandatory but, obviously, recommended. What you will need for your Extension of Stay is 800k in a Thai bank account in your name.
For 90 days a good holiday years insurance will insure you for 90 consecutive days outside your country, this will be your cheapest option I think.

Hi I’m from the UK and from what I’m reading you appear to be confused about the requirements. If you feel the need please contact me directly
In the meantime I would suggest that you take a look at Gowalkabout insurance. I’m pretty sure they will be significantly cheaper than the quotes you have already received
Thank you for your comment. My comment regarding insurance was for information only. As you have commented it isn’t mandatory to have insurance for either a 90 day tourist visa or a O visa but nevertheless it is worth consideration which is why I thought to mention it in my original comment
Yes an insurance is always recommended, but the mandatory insurances attached to a Non O-A visa and further extensions of stay approved by the Thai immigration is said (or known) to be expensive vs coverage.
Can I suggest that you to take a look at Gowalkabout as it may be of interest to you. As an example for two people both aged over 70 yrs old insured for £

Just buy your regular travel insurance which meets your needs and travel plans

the embassy website will have a list of the companies which are accepted by Thai customs. AXA issues a bare bones policy that meets the requirement. That’s the cheapest option
I had to get insurance on an OA visa and tried every company provided by the Australian consule. None included transit it was just health while in Thailand. I ended up using my usual travel insurance company from Australia so if you are applying for OA you will need insurance and maybe apply from where you live.

Why do you need insurance it’s an O-A that needs insurance

There is no requirement for insurance for a Non O visa. There is for the year long Non OA visa.
They never update their requirements. My mate came out at Xmas on the non imm O over 50, only needed £10k in the bank but needed 90 days insurance, I think you'll find the newer requirements on the evisa website
