BKK is easy .. kbank was only other want to open for me but try sell insurance and force 5000b fee and 10k deposit lol.. bkk 30pb deposit and 20mins done

Can I switch from a volunteer visa to a non-O visa in Thailand without leaving the country?

with you on this one. Agent means having to do nothing at all. Many have brick and mortar office so very legit. Whilst the expense is much greater the panic esp this prior year of the covid extensions is worth the difference.. of course talking for people not one retirement etc... If that was me I would do first year with agent then explore DIY options.
