TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses various money transfer services recommended for sending money to Thailand. Users predominantly favor TransferWise for its competitive rates and upfront pricing compared to Western Union, which received criticism for hidden charges. Other mentioned services include Xendpay, Azimo, WorldRemit, and DeeMoney, with each having its pros and cons. The overall consensus is that TransferWise is one of the best options for both ease of use and cost-effectiveness.

I have used transferwise - as do many on this site. I have a local bank account as well as one in my home country.

You believe local bank account is required. They're easy to get but you may have to go to a couple of branches to find the right branch manager (who decides if they will give you an account).

Transferwise is reliable(ish) Sometimes money arrives in seconds, sometimes in days, usually seconds. But they will tell you at the time of transfer so it's not a mystery

Transferwise is one of the best 1s for sure. But it’s impossible to pick an absolute winner without knowing the details. Like where you need 2 wire the funds and how you are going to pay. Is is a transfer to TH or from TH etc

1.5B is a huge difference over time if you are sending all your money that way, would be £1,000 in fees over a year if you sent £25,000.
Gordon *******
Just checked its about 1½ baht less than Transferwise.

Sending £100-150 it's not a great deal. Not enough to worry myself about.

I'll consider Transfewise in future.

Transferwise is the standard in Transferring money from the West to Thailand. Very good rates (better than WU) and upfront pricing.

Chester ********
Been using for 12months now....any currency, fast and awesome
Kåre ********
I use transfer wise, also got their mastercard. Not tried it out yet, worth a look.
Garrett ***********
@**
I love transferwise, their debit card is a miss in my opinion. After $200 a month they charge you for using the debit card.
Ivan ************
@Garrett **********
note this charge is for ATM use only. No charge on use of the debit card as a card to buy things. Schwab is still a better card for Americans, for ATM use, TW isn't great for ATM. Fine as a debit card though.
Kåre ********
@Garrett **********
yes, but can use when travelling. On airports around
Diezzy ******
@Garrett **********
yes thé débit card not good but for bank transfér IS the best
Garrett ***********
@Zi**
I mean, you can use any debit or credit card when traveling lol.

For Southeast Asia though (Thailand, Vietnam) transferwise does not support baht and VND bank accounts so you can't withdraw baht from your transferwise debit card. If you're withdrawing from an ATM, they still hit you with the withdraw fees.
Diezzy ******
@Garrett **********
with m'y French bank IS full free 0 charges all thé year in home and when im Travel inoay only about ATM local charges outisde europe but free of charges If i use my CB to pay something.
