@James *******
the question was applying in the USA, therefore your comments about transfer of funds is wrong for his application.

He must have the US equivalent of 800,000 baht in a US bank.

or go home to country of passport and apply for new OA visa where your current insurance provider is ok and repeat every two years.

So if your self employed, just bad luck ? Dont come to Thailand.

Or keep your money at home and bring just what you need and do what i just did, get a new OA visa from your own country every two years, saves all those immigration interpretations.

@Marty ********
, yes i would reapply for a visa as i dont need or want to tie the 800k/400k of funds in a Thai bank and i dont need the monthly 65k to live on. I just find it simplier and less bank fees to move enough to live on every quarter.

And then go back every two years and obtain a new visa, keep your bulk money in an australian bank. Dont worry about the extension rules.

yes, i think it helps that i have an Australian bank account and can state a friends address as my forwarding address and of course the police clearence and medical is done in Australia. It certainly keeps the cost down flying to Perth to do all that.

, thanks i think all round that will be the way forward for me, aprox every two years go and get a new OA visa. Interesting point for some to note i have a New Zealand passport but i know i can obtain a OA visa at the Thai Embassy in Canberra, Australia as this is what i did originally.

I notice on your website you had a teacher position in. China, you could look into doing the same here, if not then a ed visa for learning Thai would be your option.
