ORIGINAL POSTER
Im on a retirement visa here and had the 800,000 baht in my Thai bank. Recently read that 400,000 baht must be the lowest amount maintained in the bank account.

Is this correct as I am unable to see any detail of this for this visa?

What is the impact if the amount is below 400,000 baht?

Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
To maintain a retirement visa in Thailand, you initially need to show 800,000 baht in a Thai bank account for at least 2 months before applying for your extension. After receiving your extension, you must keep that amount for 3 months and then maintain a minimum balance of 400,000 baht for the remainder of the year. If your account balance drops below 400,000 baht, you will fail to meet the necessary requirements for the visa extension, which could lead to denial of your application next year and potential expulsion from Thailand.

Once I paid my internet bill from the 800K account. 429 Baht. Big mistake.

Even I transfered within 5 minutes the 429 Baht from my other account they fined me.

10.000 Baht.

Put 800k in a Thai bank and just leave it there forever. If you can't afford to do that you can't afford to retire.

in effect, that means you are down 800k. Money has no value if you can not spend it. Must be a boomer.

, of course you can afford to retire without 800k sitting in some Thai bank earning nothing. Just be on the visa that allows you to bring in 65k every month, that is perfectly adequate amount for you to live on as long as you are wise in your spend habits.

@Garry ******
can do that only if your embassy guarantees that, otherwise you must have the money in the bank

not quite correct.

If you can show 12 monthly deposits of the amount required into a Thai bank you can gain the visa and renew the visa.

However always check with your local immigration office first.

David Hayes no problem, I am getting some pension paid in monthly, so I never have to worry about it

@Ian **************
just make sure that you make some transaction activities every 12 months, otherwise they can close your account, told by two banks...SCB and KTB...

had no idea. So just drop a few bucks in every few months. Thanks

I agree just leave it there. Donโ€™t touch it and you wonโ€™t have any problems.

The "impact" is that you'll be denied your extension next year and have to leave Thailand and start over fresh.

plus I have seen immigration officers tell people you lost the extension & were on overstay from the date you failed to meet the seasoning requirements

yikes. Man, I think just donโ€™t ever touch it. Leave the 800 alone forget about it.

If you are on a yearly extension of stay based on banked money method you need to have had the 800K baht in a thai bank account in your name only for 2 months before you apply for the extension, you need to keep that 800K baht in the account for 3 months after the extension is granted and then the balance cannot go below 400K baht the rest of the year.

You failed to meet the requirements for the extension you're on and they'll catch it next year when you apply for the extension and turn in the year transaction detail statement
