You need to have your TOEIC test done with a score above 600 (employers usually want 700 or above).

You need to have a police clearance.

Your employer needs to be able to actually hire you.

They need to provide registration documentation and owner's documentation.

They need to get your waiver from the TCT if you are going to be a teacher.

You need to have 15 clear days remaining on your period of stay or extension of stay.

IF you have your documents ready for use in Thailand then look for a job.

The employer will supply you with their documents that you need to get the non-B visa and work permit.

You can look for a job while you are on a tourist entry.

You'd need the actual work permit to turn in cancel the work permit.

If the employer has already canceled and returned the work permit then you need your passport to get the letter from the labor office.

If the employer did not have the work permit (it was in your possession) then it is not canceled (hence the reason they do not have the letter to give you).
