How can I cancel my extension of stay in Thailand without a termination letter from my school?

Hi I have a question, I know my school has cancelled my work permit and I need to cancel my extension of stay but they won’t give me the termination letter I need to hand into immigration. Is there a way that I can cancel the extension of stay without this letter? If I go to changwattana without the letter to termination letter will I be sent away? I really wanna get out of overstay as quickly as possible!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking assistance on how to cancel their extension of stay in Thailand due to the cancellation of their work permit by their school, which has not provided the necessary termination letter. They have already visited the labor office but were informed that they need a Thai person from their school to assist with the cancellation process, causing frustration and concern about potential overstays. Several comments suggest steps such as contacting the labor office directly, while others share similar experiences and the complexities of the process.

Soo I’m at the labour office now and they turned me away saying no foreigner can cancel their work permit by themselves. You have to have a Thai person from your school with you. When I explained to them that I have already finished working there and they know I they know it but they still won’t help me it’s hard just to get them to talk to me she told me it’s not hard just get them to do it. Soo now I’m stuck I don’t know what to do

Or you need 'official' papers about your job termination.
@Le***
, what did you bring with your wp?

And did you try to consult with them about the case your employer refuses to give you papers?

Yes I had my passport and work permit and I tried to explain to her my hardest that I’ve left the school and they are aware I’ve left but won’t help to cancel I’ve tried talking to them but I’m getting really slow replies if I’m lucky. I’m waiting on a termination letter from the school for over a week. Can’t start the visa process for my new position until this is sorted. Truthfully I’m more worried about being in overstay for Soo long, I can’t have this fine raking up Soo high. Am I truly in overstay if my work permit still isn’t cancelled??

Not to sound heartless or mean spirited
@Le***
but if that's what they said it sounds to me like you're tracking down a thai from your school to get that work permit cancelled then :/

You'll need to go to the labor office first and cancel your work permit. Then, you can cancel your one year extension of stay based on employment, and apply for a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19.

You *SHOULD* be able to cancel your existing work permit without the letter. Did you contact the labor office yet?

You'd need the actual work permit to turn in cancel the work permit.

.

If the employer has already canceled and returned the work permit then you need your passport to get the letter from the labor office.

.

If the employer did not have the work permit (it was in your possession) then it is not canceled (hence the reason they do not have the letter to give you).

.

You can also make sure that they have actually canceled it and not just told you that they canceled it (happens far too often).

ohhh! That’s good to know! Cuz I still have the work permit in my possession i never let them have it. Soo how do I go about cancelling the work permit? Do I go to the employment office I picked it up from or do I go to the labour office? Other than photocopies passport and work permit, is there anything I need to bring with me?

Yes, you need to go to the labor office to cancel. You may need the papers /letter to show the termination last day of the work.

You can talk with labor office if you cannot get the letter. Once you cancel your wp and got document (or receipt) from labor office, you go to immigration office to cancel your extension.

Best to talk your local labor office and immigration office about their procedure.
