If I renew my passport here in Bangkok, will my current TR visa still be valid?

Background: I hold a Canadian passport and live in Myanmar, now visiting bkk. My passport doesn't expire for another couple of years but it's running out of pages. I'm not looking to go back to Canada to get it renewed. If I renew it in Myanmar, the new passport will actually be made in bkk and mailed to Myanmar, so Im just thinking if I should renew it at the Canadian embassy in bkk since I'm here already.

TLDR : Answer Summary
If you renew your passport in Bangkok while holding a TR (Tourist) visa, your current visa should still be valid. You can show both the old and new passports to immigration when you exit Thailand. It's also mentioned that the Canadian government typically returns the old passport, allowing you to present it alongside your new one. If you intend to extend your stay with a 30-day extension after getting the new passport, it's recommended to have both passports available.

To exit Thailand, just have both passports. No big deal. The same with hotel bookings.

I was in the same situation, back then on a ED visa but it works the same.

I actually went with both passports to immigration and they transferred the visa to the new one. In your case you can just leave and show both passports

were you on an Ed visa, or an extension of stay based on studying?

this was before the pandemic. I was still on the actual ED visa.

On another occasion many years back, I also ran out of pages and did a border crossing with both passports in malaysia on a TR visa. Took them some time to figure out what was going on but had no issues after all

The tourist visa is a single entry visa, and became invalid the moment you entered Thailand. If you renew your passport in Thailand, while on a tourist visa, it should be possible. I believe the Canadian government will return your old passport, and you can show both passports when you leave.
