Some places allow you to book, not pay, cancel. Can do that print it out. Also I understand sometimes they only care to see you have some place to stay for a few days. You may not need accommodation for the entire time.

The IO are as confused as the rest of us. Sometimes you can, sometimes you cant. I think a difference is A) Do they need fill a visa runner quota, B) Does the tourist look like they're here to spend money (do Thailand some good) or is the tourist a bum. I fall in the middle

I have been here 5+ years - in-and-out, in-and-out every 3 months like a good little habitual tourist. Never an issue. I know it is in part good luck. But the other side of that coin,

There are 10,000 tourist and 10 stories. You never here the stories where 'nothing happened...' but that is mostly what happens - nothing.

Always running a risk by being a habitual tourist - though I have been doing it for the past 5 years .

I have a lease in my name. I have also used one of those deals where you book but then cancel.

has to be in your possession to be used for various things (bank account for one). I had to show my work permit once at a border crossing (atypical).

Agreed - I don't know why I was bummed when the kicked me out twice. This groups seems so much better.

What is the correct visa. There are no rules about how many times a year you can be a tourist. If your here on leisure tourist is the correct visa.
