Are you over age 50? If so you could consider a nonO based on retirement instead of family. Sounds like might be more suited for your scenario.

Be sure to come to Thailand with correct visa. Coming as a tourist and trying to sort out visa after landing is not a good idea anymore. As soon as you land, start the process for opening the bank account in Thailand quickly so you can do your transfer of 800,000 Thb which you will likely need for your visa to have extension of stay.

 I would suggest trying to do online reports. Maybe it is my province but twice the online report worked for me after I had left the country.
