I can't see border bouncing being encouraged, nor maybe even tolerated, again anytime soon.

1 million people are injured and 20,000 people killed in road accidents every year in Thailand. just take a look at the scratches on the walls of the ramps going into any multi story car park and you will see even the very basics of IQ like spatial awareness are beyond many Thais.

think about the conversations you've had with taxi drivers in new york, london, singapore, etc, with the conversations you've had with taxi drivers in bangkok (assuming you speak thai).

the differences are not just between developed and developing countries. there are significant differences between countries within those two groups.

if you are a well traveled person and go through the list and think about the countries you've visited and the normal people you've encountered in those countries you will probably agree it makes a lot of sense. it certainly does to me.

nonsense. there are huge differences in average IQ in different countries.

luckily thailand's city and town planners seem to be aware that roundabouts are unsuitable for a country with a national average IQ of 91, hence they are rare and are often accompanied by traffic lights. when you do come across one, proceed with caution if you want to avoid damage to your car.

I hope this makes the global news. Donald Trump's reaction on Twitter will be hilarious. His excitement may even be enough to trigger a heart attack.

there are flights to most major airports on a regular basis. some tourists got stuck here when the airlines cancelled a bunch of flights earlier on. the amnesty was supposed to give them extra time to find a flight, which should have been possible for most of them by now. 31 july seems a very generous final deadline.

@Matt ******
yes it seems some people who live here are treating the amnesty as an alternative to extending their visa just because its easier. i think they will have serious problems to continue their stay in the kingdom afterwards.
Oliver ********
i'm not sure why they can't extend (everything seemed normal at chaeng wattana, except for the tourist / visa exemption zone, last couple of times i've been there) but i'm sure there will be a mechanism for people with valid visas to extend later, assuming the lockdown has had some impact on their extension.
